Can the NAVI Screen diagnostics show what gear the AT is in?
I've seen how the Navi screen on the 3G TL can provide a lot of info about the car's systems. For example, it can show the satellites the car is currently using for navigation, or the YAW rate as you go around turns.
Does anyone know if it can show what gear you're in (for a car with the 5-AT) ?
The idea is, after awhile, I could get a sense of what gear was generally used at what speed (or how much the car downshifted at certain times). Then, when I used the SportShift, I'd have an idea of what the AT would do under similar conditions.

short answer i believe is no. And the tranny computer does not totally just do it upon speed, more based on pedal use and feel. IE - acceleration hard in first will hold it until it more or less NEEDS to shift from speed while in city turns, it shifts more or less when the pedal has less pressure for a smoother ride disregarding speed. Also, a small table is listed in your owners manuel.
but i redally dont think it on there

It's interesting that with all the diagnostic info showing on the NAVI screen, the current gear would not be one of the items. I kinda hoped that on the NAVI-equipped cars, the mechanics wouldn't need an external scanner for diagnostics.
I also do realize that the engine calculations as to what gear to use are a lot more sophisticated than just 'what speed is the car going', taking into account grade logic uphill-downhill, etc.
But one can always wish and sometimes some of this info is buried somewhere.
Thanks for the feedback.

(think "M-M-C"). Then you'll see a menu with a bunch of screens.
Warning - you can probably mess up some of the car's settings on some of these screens, because some of them appear to be used to adjust some of the settings!
With the diagnostic screen showing, if you hold the Setup button for 5 seconds, you'll see some additional "Developer" screens.

The thing is, it stops the car from shifting because now the car is in manual mode. So I won't see where the car was going to shift because now it's holding the gear.
Thanks anyway.
