Can $1,000 get decent speakers, amp, plus install?

04 tl w nav. Want to upgrade atleast door speakers and amp them. Also want to get a simple iPod connector installed (doesn't need to display on nav, just connection). Don't care for a subwoofer, I'm past that stage in my life lol. Can this be done for around $1000? If so what would you suggest I go with? Thank you kindly

from doing a lot more reading, it seems like a strong upgrade without breaking the bank would be just getting a high quality pair of components for the fronts, plus an amp. Does this seem like a good idea? Would i power the rears with the amp or just the new speakers? Any mid range amp suggestions?

What is it that makes you want to upgrade the front speakers? If you hooked up an external amp to the stock speakers there would be an improvement. Some people have had good luck with the Infinity Kappa component speakers. You can connect the ipod connector yourself.

Here is my 1K build but that does not include install if you need to pay for it. no sub will save you money but not advised. infinities not advised

Ooh, thanks. That thread is fairly hard to digest for a noob like me though. Did u end up with these ?

Amazon.com: CXS64 V.2 - Image Dynamics 6.5" 4-Ohm Component Speaker System: Car Electronics Amazon.com: CXS64 V.2 - Image Dynamics 6.5" 4-Ohm Component Speaker System: Car Electronics

Are u very happy with them? I listen to mostly EDM and rock/acoustic, but want decent bass out of these (compared to stock, so the bar is very low) as I'm not planning on a sub. should I consider any others?

If I bring any 6.5 components and a 2 chan amp to an installer, will they be able to make it fit with regards to spacers etc in the door? It sounds like no speakers fit stock and some custom fitting is required.

Any rec for iPod/iphone kit?

Thank you!!

Bear in mind that your stock speakers are 2 ohm. You'll have to get your amp to compensate for this if you end up getting 4 ohm speakers (which are more common.)

marco, thanks. May be silly question, but why would that matter if my new amp only powers my new components? If it still matters, should i look for 2 ohm components?

Also, do i need to buy that honda "aftermarket amp to stock radio" hardware connector? it is supposed to make the connection easier but wasnt sure if it is required.

Actually, if you're using a separate amp to only power those components, then it shouldn't matter. I was thinking you'd still be using the stock amp. My bad.

may be a noob question, but how does the head unit and amp work together to insure the amp powered fronts and head unit powered (center, rear, sub) speakers are at parallel volume etc? does that happen automatically or does the installer have to configure that somehow?

This might sound backwards but aftermarket mids will require a sub to be used. They're designed for midbass, not bass or sub bass. They will give you that pop in the midbass and midrange and offer higher power handling and sound quality. They're designed to be used with a sub.

You don't have to associate a subwoofer with teens that want to be heard around the block. You need a subwoofer to accurately reproduce music. You can cut the level way down to the point it blends and just fills in the low end a little. The Pyle 15" is a great $40 subwoofer. If you install it infinite baffle it will sound great, require little power, have a flat frequency response, and you get to keep 95% of your trunk because there's no enclosure. Weight is also kept to a minimum.

I suggest you stay away from infinity components unless you like your tweeters bright and harsh.

I prefer Class D when you get into the higher power stuff but at this level a class AB 3 or 4 channel amp will work fine. Ideally a JL Audio XD 400/4 for around $300 with 75wx2 for the front channels and 200w bridged for the sub which is all you need for a 15" IB.

The JX360/4 will give 70x2 and 180w bridged to the sub for $200 or less.

PPI makes some good budget amps. This one is hard to beat for just over $100. People seem to be satisfied with them. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...FQeCQgoddgIAoQ

100wx2 for the fronts and 290w for the sub. More power will mean better sound quality and dynamics even if you don't like to listen loud.

I highly suggest the JL C5 comp set if your budget allows. They sound very real with accurate life like vocals and good detail and midbass. Speakers are personal preference and I prefer these to speakers costing much more. The tweeters are detailed yet non fatiguing. Just an overall very good sounding high quality set. Kind of pricey but they might fit in your budget.

HAT makes good speakers in every price range. ID has great speakers. There are many more.

I would probably do the PPI amp and 15" Pyle sub IB for sure and listen to as many component speakers as you can to get an idea of what you like.

Damping the doors is very important as is the rear tray so put some money away for damping materials (Cascade, and Second Skin being two great brands).

I think you can do a nice system for $1,000. With car audio once you get past this point you reach the point of diminishing returns. You might pay twice as much for a 10% improvement.

You want to put your money into the speakers as they will have the largest effect on sound quality. Don't try to make the little 6.5" in the doors play the lower frequencies the sub should be playing, you'll only muddy up the midrange and use up a lot of your amplifier power for no reason.

so confirm everything that I need:
6.5 components
2 or 4 channel amp (speaker lev inputs required??)
subwoofer (strongly suggested by i hate cars!)
line out converter (
Amazon.com : Scosche Loc80 2-Channel Adjustable Lineout Converter : Electronics Amazon.com : Scosche Loc80 2-Channel Adjustable Lineout Converter : Electronics
)
dynamat
4 gauge amp kit
i-simple gateway device for ipod connectivity

If i take that to an installer am i all set? Do i need to get anything for speaker fitting or let the installer deal with that?

ihatecars, how would you compare the c5's to focal polyglass? They are about the same price. I bring that one up bc my friend had the polyglass in his porsche and it was phenomenal. Granted i have not heard any other aftermarket systems recently.
