BT Phones for Wireless Internet on Notebook?

A little off-topic, but...

When I bought my T637 on Amazon I noticed that one of things "other customers who bough this phone purchased" was a USB-Bluetooth adapter.

Now I'm thinking that if I install this on my notebook is there some way I can use my computer to dial up an ISP using my phone and Bluetooth?

Anyone know anything about this?

There is a BT Profile called "Dial Up Networking"

If your phone supports this, then theoretically all you need is a little BT USB Adapter for your PC and you can do exactly what you want.

You can use your phone as a modem on a GPRS network. I currently am doing this on a Palm Tungsten T3. However, this is a very slow modem and usually the cost of the data plans from the wireless companies are high. In Toronto I am paying $25 per month for a 3MB plan and 3MB will not allow a lot of surfing. It is, however, more than adequate for sending and receiving e mails with only small attachments.

The other problem, as I understand it, is that GPRS coverage is is not that great in the states.

On paper this is a great solution but it isn't all that practical. I would be reluctant to spend the money unless I knew exactly how I intended to use the laptop/phone combo and was sure that it would do what I wanted.

You can log on to the interenet via 2 methods: CSD (circuit switched data aka dial up) or GPRS which is a tad bit faster. GPRS uses your bucket of megabytes while CSD uses your minutes.

I was thinking of just using plain old dial up, as I don't have a GPRS plan.
Any idea what speeds this would yield for surfing?

With CSD, your speeds are very limited. Once I got a little under 56k but I think I was just lucky. Mostly, speeds will range from 28.8 to 56k. Checking email is great, browsing could be a pain (get a basic browser like firefox or opera) and chatting is ok.
