Boston Acoustics

Right now i have one Boston G5 12" in my acura TL front firing trough the armrest into the cabin and i have one extra G5 12" in my closet. The one in the trunk is fed by the alpine pdx 600.1. Now im just thinking to uprgrade to one SPG from boston which would be a perfect fit firing trough that armrest. Now my question is if i do get a dual voice coil... can i buy another pdx 600.1 amplifier and feed each coil around 500 watts seperalty or do i need a single amp.... like the pdx 1000.1

I'm not sure of the specs of the SPG sub you mentioned, but if the sub is 4 ohm DVC I would wire the sub in parallel positive to positive negative to negative will give you a 2ohm load and that pdx puts out the same power 2 or 4ohm. Now if you want to feed it more power get the pdx 1000.1 and wire it the same way.

i wouldnt gain anything out of it if i dont feed it right. To save money i would just buy another 600.1 and give it the additional power it needs. I would assume it would be cleaner too. as i wouldnt be pushing two amps as much as i would be one.

i just never seen anybody do it that way. thats why im wondering is it doable and if it would have any interference or maybe loss of quality.

What is that sub rated at rms and peak? I understand what your saying about feeding it with 2 amps. To me it would seem like overkill unless it can handle like 2,000 watts or something in that power range if not I wouldn't do it.

Or you could hook up that other G5 with another 600.1

I checked the specs on your SPG its rated at 1,000 watts 500 per voice coil. Those pdx amps are underated they are most likely putting out about 700 watts rms. It would be doable but risky at the same time.

i wanna keep the weight to a minimum, one reasone i went with pdx amplifiers. Bostong for its Sound Quality and great output. The Spg is rated at 1000 watt rms and weighs the same as the G5 12". the spg is more oval looking with its height of 13" and with of 10" which in my application would be a perfect fit trough the armrest in the back seat.

Did you get a birthsheet with your pdx 600.1 if so what was your amp rated at? In my opinion if its rated over 700rms I think that would be enough to push that sub, and sound good. Good Idea about the shape of the sub and the armrest.

do not strap two amps to one driver...one per coil...very bad idea...twice the power doesnt equal twice the sound...

what problem r u having that u feel the need for a change out?

would you recommend two 12" boston G5 in a box like yours ???

how does it differ from my setup where the one driver is firing directly trough the ski pass and its completely sealed off from the trunk. Mine is pretty accurate although its much louder with the windows open and it hits much deeper too. I guess i do recreate some kind of a band-pass design while having the windows down.

Im also moslty looking for SQ.

food for thought

yellow - sealed 600 watts
blue - double your power 1200 watts - 2.2 db gain
red - add second driver 600watts total - 3.2 db gain
blue - switching to ported enclosure single sub tuned to 35 hz 600 watts - 4.5 db gain
pink - bandpass single sub 600 watts - 7.3db gain

-Jason

Last edited by CSWBiggs; 06-12-2009 at 09:49 PM. Reason: 2 12's bandpass - 600 watts - 11.4 db of gain

Exactly how mine was facing forward through the rear seat with my two 12W6s.

I could face it backwards which only sounded good on rap but anything else was terrible, not to mention rattles.

Sound was improved 200% by going to a proper bandpass ported through the armrest.
