Bluetooth module for 2005 TL

So, a couple years ago I unplugged the bluetooth module because of the battery drain issue. I was thinking about it a few days ago, and want to get it working again. So I was doing some searching and can't seem to find an OEM replacement. Seems like it is no longer available. I may try the repair by using a heat gun, but from what I have read in this forum, that is more of a temporary fix. Any leads on purchasing this part. I know getting one used is an option, but that is pretty much a crapshoot.

When I looked a few years ago, I think I remember the part was around $200 or so.

How the heck didn't I think about Ebay? Wow. I'll check that out.

Ok, so I looked on Ebay. I do see used HFL modules, no new ones. I'd like to try and find a new module before I buy a new one.

Assuming the Legend over there is the RL here....so you may have more luck on the RL forums instead of the TL forums. I do not know if the RL uses the same module as the TL. In the TL, it is up in the overhead module above the map lights and is quite easy to disconnect.

I just installed the 2010 tsx bluetooth module on my 05 tl, I originally installed the 08 type s Bt module but I'm doing an experiment with the 2010 tsx version

These are cheap 40 -60 dollars or less maybe

There are 2 versions out there for the tsx module
Mainly the connector
Non-navi and w/navi connector
To make sure you got the navi connector look at the pigtail having all pins with wires in it

Hi, does the BT from the 2010 TSX work on your 05 TL?

How is the testing going? I'm interested if you get full functionality of the HFL. Thanks!

Hey osvaldo516, also interested in an update.

I just replaced my totaled gray 2008 TL Base-Navi with an identical one but in black. This replacement has a defective BT module and I'm very interested in trying the TSX part at one fifth the price of the TL's.

You mention two versions of the Bluetooth module depending whether it was from a navi or non-navi TSX.

Which model TL did you install it in, navi or non-navi, and which version of the TSX module did you install? I couldn't quite make that out from your posts. I see you have an 05 TL. But that's about it.

To the point, are you able to tell me which version of TSX module I need for my TL with navi? And if possible can you please provide the specific Acura part number you used in your installation?

Thanks!

Tried baking... it worked!

So I've grown impatient waiting for a reply and tired of looking for bargains on the TL Bluetooth module on-line.

I found a reference to a blog (see link below) where someone repaired a module by replacing a faulty capacitor. Unfortunately this repair was specific to the 2004-06 version and I have an 08 (the module was updated for 07-08). Others responded to the blog with reports of success by replacing a similar capacitor on the newer board, while others reminded success in repairing their defective board by baking it in an oven for 30min at 350°F.

With nothing to lose I pulled my module which was causing the "BOOTING UP" message and placed it on a cookie sheet and baked as above. I waited for it to cool and installed it this evening. IT WORKED!!

I didn't find this surprising. I've had similar results with repairing other balky electronics so I hope this one lasts.

So give it a try before you spent $200+. What do you have to lose?

Mine (05) just crapped out this week and drained the battery. Found a replacement on eBay for about $70 and figured I'd take a chance. Everything I read about baking suggested it would fail again. I'm going to try the wiring mod where you swap out the switched 12v wire for the constant wire. Supposedly the car takes longer to recognize your phone (board booting up) and will hang up if you turn the key off without transferring a call first. But it won't kill the battery if it fails. Someone else on the forum did it but I can't find the link right now. Basically there is a 12V constant wire and 12V switched wire going to the board. All you need to do is cut the 12 V constant. Cap off the end coming from the car and splice the other end (coming from the HFL connector) to the switched 12V wire. HFL is now controlled by the key.
