Blown Voice Coil? Yes Or No?

I did a few tests to see if my voice coil on my 12w7 is either blown or not...

i did the regular plug and play...no sound coming out of it..

i push the sub in from the center and when it releases back i can hear a spring behind the sub..

when i plug in another sub into my system it works... so it has to be the sub...i checked all the wiring nothing is wrong..

if the voice coil is blown...is it possible to fix??..and if so how much??

or should i just dump this speaker i been having for 5 years and buy a new one

If it has a scratchy sound when you push on it, the vc is burned. If it's in a sealed box it might be easier if you pull it out of the box and push on it. Check the resistance of the vc with an ohm meter against JL specs. Did you actually pull the sub out of the box to check connections at the sub itself?

Yeah, take it out and inspect it. Possibly the leads just came out of the terminals, or something easy.

Unfortunately, I don't know if a recone for a w7, but they might exist since I looked a few years ago.

sub is blown. i sold car audio for a number of years. you must have been either pounding it too hard for too long, you werent running enough power into it, or it just gave out. i've been running at 12w6v2 for 4 years now and no issues and i beat on that sub daily, but i also know what distortion sounds like.

you can get a w7 reconed. go to an authorized independent dealer and ask them if they will send out your sub to be reconed. they will always say yes but may also try to sell you a new sub. what ends up happening is the sub is reconed but you get one that is already done. they take your parts and make b product to sell with warranty for a great discount.

if it were up to me, you live in the states the jl audio product is so much cheaper than it is in canada, get a new sub.
