best speakers for clarity?

hey guys and gals, i want to do audio in my car but before i go and spend money on an amp and sub, i want to do speakers first.

alittle back ground info about my audio "goals" i want crisp clear sound while also having clean bass(no booty bumpin bass needed here lol) and no competitions any time soon. i plan on going with all new speakers, sub and amp.......eventually. but for now i just want to do speakers.

my question is this, what are the best brand speakers for clarity. i hear MB quart is good and also infinity. what does everyone suggest? cost is little to no concern.

I absolutely love my set of be's. I didnt know which one to choose between those and the hertz mlk3's. Just the ribbon tweeter would be a bitch to mount.

I have been real happy with my Infinity upgrades, nice improvement for a very reasonable price. Easy swap job to do as well.

come-on Dynaudio's LOVE tons of power and are efficient enough, you can't fight the way they sound. and I'm selling a set of lightly used 340's

I ran those for a year. They have good clarity but the tweeters ruin it. I found myself lowering the volume because they screamed so bad but I'm one of the few that prefer a silk tweeter. They seem to work very well with the stock amp and they do bolt in so that's a plus.

I agree if infinity ever went with silk dome tweeters then i actually might like them but there tweeters are just way to bright at mid and high volumes, There mid drivers are nice though

Thats true. Thier tweets are loud but they are so crisp and they put out a wide range of sound but one can adjust that through EQs and crossovers.

scan revalators and either air circ or ring radiator tweets...since cost is no concern...

or you could do the sane thing and go listen to some and see what you like the best instead of listening to a bunch of us idiots on the intraweb.

I just upgraded my center and tweets with Infinity Reference. Cheap, easy upgrade and sounds a good bit better than stock. The tweets are a bit bright, but turning the treble one or two ticks below flat dulls them out a bit.
Looking to do the doors next. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

You really can't EQ the tweets out. I actually like the mids a lot. But don't confuse crisp with bright. I thought the same until I got my current speakers. The new ID tweets are actually more detailed and crisp yet they don't hurt my ears.

Yes sir. They have a more natural sound but still very detailed. The Infinities can have a "tinny" sound.

I have Infinity 6.1 Perfects in the front stock locations on my gen2 CL.

I have an Alpine V series 550 amp, running the crossover at the low level for the tweeters, with -3 @12k on my eq & the system sounds great.

I've never thought about that but it might work ok. Not sure if you can order just the tweeters from ID.

Wow, I just checked everything out on that site. You are able to order the tweets separately. ID has some new stuff on there, along with everything else mentioned in this thread. Are all components drop in? or does it vary? I really dont wanna have to cut my door panels or do any kind of custom work. I wanna be able to drop stocks back in there. Sorry to hijack.

Unless you find a square speaker, you have to cut the doors to fit any speaker other than the oem one.

With the exception of the Infinities. They literally screw right in. On some you can get away with just the mounting rings (can't remember the proper name). My IDs required the rings and cutting of the door.

To the ones that haven't done this yet, the TL has a "D" shaped opening. Only something with a small magnet like the Infinities will fit without cutting and that eliminates pretty much all aftermarket.

Can you mount the stock speakers back after cutting and having the rings?

I also have the Image Dynamics and the magnet on those things are huge. Worth cutting the doors to get them to fit. It would be hard to get the factory ones back in but it could work with a little epoxy..

Do you have the CTX or the higher end ones? How do you like them? I don't see many people with them in the TL so I like to hear opinions to see if others like them too.

So, I'm going to be a noob here and not search, but what speakers sizes fit the doors/rear deck/tweeter.

I think it's 5.25 for all 4 corners and 1" tweets but I can't remember.

The mid/woofs in the doors are 6.25" but they are also on spacers that hold them about 3/4" away from the door's sheet metal. That's why the factory hole in the door can be as small as it is (plus the smallish magnet structure on the factory speakers).

CTX ones are good enough for my car. I actually researched these speakers and after reading your review, I decided to buy them. They are great! I bought a Rockford Fosgate 360.2 but have yet found the time to install it. I am into a lot of deck work at my house so I hope to install it by May.

Do you run locs or do you use a processor? The locs are ok but after reading the reviews on the 360.2, I was hooked! I just need to find more time in the day.

I'm looking into buying some Boston Acoustic speakers within a week -- anyone know anything about those?

Plus, I'm going to do a JL sub (JL makes a shallow sub that I need bc I use all my trunk space on a weekly basis), all new speakers, 2 amps (1 for sub and 1 for speakers -- thinking JL or Kicker), backup camera, ipod hookup, and ps3 (for the blu-ray) to the nav screen.

Suggestions anyone about anything ^^?
