Hi Steve, welcome to Acurazine. I use the Exogear Exomount Touch CD Car mount. ( https://exogear.com) This unit attaches directly into the CD player slot, and sells on Amazon for $ 24.95, For the money, it's one of the best I've found. A very solid mount, easily removable with a twist of the knob, 360 deg.rotation and swivel. Due to the location of your radio/a/c control display, the radio portion may be partially obscured, when the iphone is in the mount. I would prefer to mount my iphone higher on the dash, but don't like any of the other mounting options. I prefer not to attach anything to the windshield or top of dash, especially suction cup type devices.

I have a CD-slot player mount as well and it has the magnetic back.

Only down side is it is a bit low in the dash area. Wish it could be higher. I too am not fond at all of suction type to the windshield....but may have to resort to that in the future.

I used to use the mountek cd mount and thought the same, then I went with the Scosche that you could 3M to any flat /curved surface.

game changer see below!

For those of you that use scosche mounts or any other magnetic mount, do you have any issues with the magnet missing with the phone's operation?

How well does the sticky pad/3M thing hold up to the dash? Any damage/residue left onthe dash? and is it eaasy to move if you want to relocate it to a diff location?

While I truly love the magnetic system the ONLY downside is that your phone must have the metal piece stuck on there. So say if a friend is with me or my GF wants to have her phone....it won't work.....

So I may have another mount that's more universal of a holder type. Hard to find a good one though.

Some options on amazon that's interesting:

Here's a little GPS "sand bag" base that is weighted and sits on dash.....so can put another mount on top.....

Well actually what I did was buy a proclip and then I did the 3M mount to that surface I believe those 3M pads are replaceable.

Nice!

Yeah I'll have to do some more research....seems like so many options and not one really is the gold standard/best.

the gold standard is proclip. they have car model specific mounts that fit perfectly in the car. i have tried two different ones in my TL and i've setlled on the one below. they are expensive but in my mind completely justified. i have ocd like tendencies with things inside my car and it had to be perfect.

they have a higher mounted one that you guys might like. i had that one previously but i didn't like it being so exposed so i went with the lower one to the right of the console. they all fit perfect into the dash/trim of the TL and wait for a black friday sale

Looking at proclip's website, I don't see how they actually mount to the dash in your photos above:?

The only downside to such a low mounting position is moving the eyes away from the road so far down to look at GPS or other notifications. If they have a solution that's right on top of dash that would be great.

2008 Acura TL Dashboard Mounts | ProClip USA

look at their instruction pdfs and you'll see how they attach. super solid, no movement and completely reversible (won't tear up dash or anything sticky). they literally stick into the trim gaps very well designed

Ahh interesting. I like it. I'll definitely have to keep this in mind....the clean way they do it is genius. The advantage of being vehicle specific can also be its downfall...as you wont be able to transfer it to another car if you either got out of the TL or need to use the mount in another persons car.

yea good and bad. the upside is that the phone mount itself is universal, it's the dash mount part that is car specific. so technically for another car you'd only need to buy half of what you did first time.
it is expensive so it's not for everyone but i would (and have) do it again in a heartbeat
