Best 3rd Gen stereo install......so far

Check out the May issue of Car Audio and Electronics magazine. I've never seen a TL featured in a car stereo magazine. The wheels are not my taste but the stereo looks pretty good.

i juss sent the pics to vikrampatel so they should be up soon. but imo i wouldnt really say its the best stereo install but definitely one of the cleanest w/o really changing from the oem looks except obviously the trunk which they did an excellent job of keepin the same style as the interior. but the rims on the TL kinda looks ok and really bad at the same time. gotta say though from reading the article that his stereo system was definitely juiced up while keepin DVD and DTS decoding capability and that the guy put a lot of money into it

Man, those are some powerfully ugly wheels.

It's a very clean install, so kudos for the attention to detail. However, I'd be bummed to give up my cupholders and the memory card and controller receiver on that PS2 are going to get snapped off by the first person to sit behind the passenger seat.

Anyone know who owns that ride? I would be curious to know if the Navi voice prompts still work. It seems to me that they managed to obtain the digital output from the head unit to use for DTS decoding, but that would render the DVD-Audio worthless. I want to know what they had to give up functionally.

It seems that the new Alpine headunit supports DVD-A and there is a DVD changer in the trunk... I could barely read the article so I'm not sure if the in dash changer is useless, but from what I could read, XM still works...

From the article:
"The Alpine in the center console is the multimedia manager (PXA-H700) and serves as the epicenter of the installation, decoding the DTS Audio signal from the factory HU, Pioneer 6-Disc changer and Sony PS2."

The installers retained the factory HU and XM making them audio sources for the multimedia manager. Sorry for the multiple posts.....

The Alpine unit can't decode DVD-Audio that's why I assumed that that functionality is lost. Still curious about the navi voice prompts and HFL (HFL might work through the analog inputs to the H700 used for XM, but it would be a pain to switch from a digital source to the analog source just to answer the phone) any way to find out what happened to them? Is Matt Ploeckelman a member here?

Kris, the article didn't indicate anything regarding the HFL or Navi. Only thing mentioned was the H700 will decode DTS signal from the HU and again, no mention of DVD-A. I guess the question can be asked, this is their website, Project Two and the TL is featured their. Just pictures and general info.

To my knowledge a DTS signal is digital.
There appears to be no optical/coax in or out in either the HU or the amp, refering to the service manual as a guide.
I would love to be able to keep my stock HU and send an optical signal to my PXA-H900.
Has anyone contacted Project-TWO and asked them if this is a misprint or did they modify the HU etc. I'm debating giving them a call to ask them about it.

I think I would pay 300 bucks to have that done alone, I would prefer to handle the rest of my install though. I dont think they'll spend a month aiming the tweeters to find the perfect spot etc.

Correction, they don't grab a DTS signal from the HU.
They Actually used hi-lo converter to grab the L+R between the h/u and the amp.
Which is as I thought they might be able to do it.

I have a few ideas on how to actually do this, does anyone know where to get the service manual for the radio alone?

Those rims are "Spinners". A friend of mine has some Black ones on his Lexus SUV.. They are very expensive and only spin clockwise. The colored portion is solid metal and can be painted to any color or powder coated (whatever you want). They look better on the Lexus

Nes,
I just replied to your post over on ECA. Did you contact project-two to find out about them not grabbing a digital signal? The article certainly led us to believe that they were able to grab a digital signal. In the back of the owner's manual they list other manuals that are available and one of them was the electrical trouble shooting manual - but I don't know if any of the audio is handled in there. I am interested to hear what you have planned.

For some reason I thought his car was Silver. Though... it did look a bit lighter than mine :P

I guess that explains it.

There's no accounting for taste...just because it cost $$$$ doesn't make it look good. A set of 28" Lexani's for a H2 will run you almost $20k, but in the end, the car will still look ghetto. I'm sure Matt P loves them, so it's all good...but IMO, he should've saved his money and got the buttprints fixed.

Now the system...that is nice! I love the fact that they kept the TL's interior appearance. The trunk is VERY clean! Great job matching the finish on the amps to the interior.

what would they use to get signal from the L+R going from the headunit to the amp....

the hi-low converters that everbody has installed, peeps always say to tap at the speaker wire...I never liked that idea...I've never had to do it with the car I have now, just installed an aftermarket deck...can you use the same hi-low converter on the the signal from the HU to the AMP, if you wanna install an aftermarket amp...

I know this strays away from the point a bit...sorry...it just made me think about it...when I purchase my TL, Im gonna move my amps, speakers and so on to the TL...so I wanna be prepared
