Battery drain - more than just HFL?
Battery drain - more than just HFL?
My 2007 TL has been eating batteries. The fastest was this last weekend. I parked on Friday and now can't get to work on Monday morning. Sucks.
I had heard about the hands free link current drain problems with the 3G TL so this morning I decided to disconnect it. But even after disconnecting I was surprised to see 0.5-1A on each fuse 5, 6, 7. That's RADIO, INTR LIGHT, BACK UP, respectively. Again, after entirely unplugging the HFL.
I've done a bit of reading and I'm hoping that what I'm seeing isn't actually the quiescent current draw. Some posts have suggested the car needs 5-10 minutes in order to go to "sleep" - I assume that's the typical lights staying on for a few minutes after turning off the car, and then dimming. I didn't have time to wait 10 minutes after pulling each fuse, so now the battery is charging at autozone and I thought I'd ask.
Does this all sound solely like the typical HFL battery drain problem? I'm hoping I don't have some other significant electrical problem.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Mike

1. Make sure all switches are turned off, then remove the ignition key. Wait at least 5 minutes for all current reduction timers to turn off (sleep mode).

I also saw some people suggest this time could be restarted when you replace a fuse. I'm still trying to get into work ASAP so didn't want to hang out after every fuse... really hoping this is all just the HFL.

I had a very similar problem on my 2006 TL. The battery would drain in 2-3 days. We took it to three different dealers, who all just threw batteries at it. It definitely was not caused by the HFL. In my case, a faulty passenger side window switch was keeping some sort of high speed comm system active (I can't remember the name for the system). That system draws about 200 mA. To stop it from draining, I just disconnected the window switch. I haven't had the problem for three years now.
