"Bass" versus "Subwoofer" controls -- what's the real difference?

Can anyone clearly explain what the difference is between the Bass and the Subwoofer controls for the audio system? Obviously turing up the Subwoofer control increases its output (and therefore whatever frequencies the subwoofer is outputting are louder). I guess my question is what does the Bass control do? Increase the bass output of the door speakers? Are the Bass and Sub controls interconnected in some way? If I turn up the Bass control does the subwoofer itself play louder?

Just wonderin'...

I think that the bass controls the bass for all the speakers and the subwoofer just controls the subwoofer itself

I assumed that "BASS" controlled the overall low frequency "boost" and "SubWoofer" controlled how much of that "boost" went to the SubWoofer.

Post sound stage

You are correct. The bass control is for the level of bass output on the mid-ranges. The sub control is for the level of bass output on the subwoofer only.

If you want to have tighter bass up front, you can try to lower the subwoofer setting and increase the mid-range bass output (not to a level causing distortion as the stock amp is not powerful enough). If you listen to hip hop and like the booming effect, you can lower the mid-range bass output and increase the sub output (not to a level causing rattle). That way you can hear more boom from behind instead of up front....

Hope it helps.

I don't think you can blow the stock sub that easy if you have stock amp, unless you put on some music with high level on the bass bands when the music was recorded. I think you would experience distortion before blowing the sub.

The stock sub is to provide very subtle low level bass to improve the sound quaility. So to me the stock sub serves to improve SQ, not SPL.

I have my stock sub set at 0 +2, mid bass set at 0 -2. I listen to Trance music. I find the bass coming from the sub is not loud but it definitely improves the SQ, IF it does not rattle.
