BackUp Camera

I know this issue has been spoken about already. But no one has seemed to provide an answer. I just got a new 2006 TL and am not happy with the massive blind spots. I also have an MDX with the back up camera and that thing is invaluable. It is one of those things (like Navi) that once you have you cannot live without. It makes parallel parking in NYC so easy and you never ever tap the car behind you.

Anyway I want to install it on my TL. Can anyone tell me how hard this is to do yourself. I was going to use the License plate camera from AVE electronics. Does anyone know if it fits on the TL, some people say it does not fit under the lip of the trunk. And where exactly does the navi signal splitter plug into the navigation system.

Also if anyone checked around the internet all the honda vehicles come with an OEM backup camera option (Pilot, Oddesey, Ridgeline). Do a google search for backup camera honda and you will find it. It kind of sucks that they do not provide this for Acuras. Anyway I looked at it and it seems the same one the MDX uses. THe installation instructions however are very complex but use a similar mechanism to the aftermarket model at AVE. The honda backup camera only is about $250, you sill need a module similar to the siginal splitter. All the honda vehicles have extra empty wiring harnesses to plug into. Why exactly the acura vehicles don't have this is beyond me.

So bottom line is has anyone installed the aftermarket one themselves and how exactly do you do it, and does it fit. Pictures of installation would be helpful.

yeah only 400 bucks!!! cheaper than back up sensors installed!

The way I would hook it up would be to buy an aftermarket thingie people use for DVDs(plug and play one), get a licence plate cam, and get a 12 volt relay. Hook the relay up in line with the reverse lights so it turns on the converter.

This one for the Ridgeline mounts to the tail gate looking down...where would you mount this on a '99 TL?

Who sells the licence plate cameras?

I thought the new RL had a baclup camera as an option too, but don't see it in its' parts diagrams I looked at on http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org

Anyone out there installed a backup camera on an '04 (or '99) TL....I'd like to wire it to the backup lights but also put a switch in the blank switch knockout left of my steering wheel so I can turn it on anytime to see who is sneaking up on me

Hi, Yes. but their site does not say if it is compatible with the TL 04-06. I emailed them weeks ago but got no response. I am trying to use my NAV screen to watch movies and ALSO to use it w/ a rear backup camera. Any help is appreciated.
