Auto Setting on Nav screen and headlights

On the nav screen, i set the display to auto instead of day and night. Shouldn't it be bright during day time and dark at night time automatically. From what i know, if your headlights are on, the nav screen turns dark assuming its night time and vice versa. For some reason when the screen is set as auto, the screen stays bright as if its set on day regardless whether its night or day. Could someone explain how it works. Also this may seem like a dumb question but here goes. For the headlights, if i set it as auto, does that mean i can turn the car off while the headlights are on? I heard your car battery can die if you leave your headlights on and turn the engine off when its not set as auto. Is that the only sole purpose of the auto setting for headlights?

You have to set the dimmer on your interior lights, the plus and minus on the left side of the gauge cluster. Its probably set to max bright, which disables the auto dim on the nav as well.

The auto shutoff on the headlights have a timer that you can set. I am thinking you have an 07/08 TL? If so I believe that actually turns lights on at dusk. But I dont know cuz I have an 06 and it does not have that feature

the interior lights have nothing to do with the nav screen. I tried setting the lights dimmer and the nav screen stayed the same. Perhaps a defecT?
