audio system format in 07 TL

This question is for 07 TL or TLS owners. Does your audio system sound like 5.1 when you play 2-channel CDs using Dolby Prologic? Does the audio screen even let you select which surround sound format you prefer to use?

No, it doesn't not sound like 5.1 with a regular CD... and no, you can't choose.

If you enter a DVD-A 5.1 disc, that's what you get... 5.1 surround sound.

If you enter a regular CD, you get regular 2-channel sound... although it still sounds great. In fact, I prefer some NON-5.1 CD's over the 5.1 versions...

Actually you do get 'simulated' dolby sound. You have to turn it on via the 'mode' switch. Pressing it continuously going through bass, treble, .....you get the option to turn on Dobly PL II and adjust the auto level control.

I prefer to leave it off as it sort of blends all the sound together while lowering volume. Sure stuff comes out of the center but everything seems to just blend together and is sort of flat sounding. I haven't tried many CD's, I prefer to just leave it in stereo mode.

I do not use the auto volume control either. Don't quite know WHY it's there. The car is pretty quiet, not much difference from 0 mph and 80 mph unless you're on crappy pavement. Might be more useful once the snow is gone and the sunroof/windows are open, but then, there's not enough juice in the system to compensate for an 80mph wind storm.

I miss my big amps and boom-boom...mods coming soon!

I agree... regular CDs sound great with Dolby off... I keep trying, and keep leaving it off

2 channel sounds good as 2 channel and 5.1 sounds good as 5.1. Mixing them isn't the best sounding.
