Changing the speakers alone won't make much difference, you need to change the amp out too. The challenge with keeping your 5.1 is that you need to find a way to power it. I have a 4 channel amp running the interior speakers, leaving the center channel on the factory amp. I have found that unless you're listening to a proper DVD-A disk, the 5.1 doesn't help the sound quality one bit. I turned the center channel off in the head unit, which cuts the music from the center without affecting the navigation or hands-free announcements.

what year is your TL? I suggest you go with a 1 4 channel amp and then another amp for your subwoofer.

Under the passenger kick panel is the factory amp, tap into the speaker wires (FR FL RR RL) and route them to your amp, use a Line output converter if your amp does not support high voltage inputs. Then set up your system like you would normally do.

As for your sub, disconnect the factory one, take it out, take the leads from that and send it to your amp for the subs, then to your subs.
