everytime i see this thread bump up i think to myself - dam i hope somebody is posting that they got this thing. i talked to my srevice guy at acura last fri. he said he dosn't have any idea when it is coming out nor did he have any information for me. i also looked on Acura.com and there is a number listed to call about it. they were almost as useless as the service guy. she didn't have any price for me or when it would be released. i say. bombard them with phone calls maybe they will get tired and just release it.

That's sounds expensive

At that price, it better be good -- I'm no longer that anxious to get this.

Price
I could get me a new 60G iPod Video for that and then some.

The price was a bit steep, but after looking at the install instructions I though it was fair. Not necessarily inexpensive, but fair for a dealer install. Plus my guess is it will be the best experience (steering wheel control, etc.) compared to other 3rd party options out there, especially given options with the Nav are limited or limiting. Finally, it stung less as part of the purchase price of the vehicle.

I'm figuring this iPod kit will be a standard feature (at least on the Navi) in 2007. I also think there with be a mid model change in 2007 adding other stuff too. So for those looking at a new TL, to wait or not??

Just an update:
I emailed the local Acura parts guy and according to him it looks like Acura will accept orders on Jan 3rd with delivery occuring the same week.
No details yet on how exactly the kit will work (display etc.).

Maybe when it gets closer and I have some cash on hand, I might go for it on impulse.

January 3rd
We just received a notice from the AHM Accessory Marketing Department that the Acura Music Link will be available for open ordering on January 3rd.
The price I have been hearing is about $495 as well. $250 for the part plus
installation.

Install for us DIYers is a joke compared to other things we've done, so I'm wondering if somehow the item will be available for purchase separately. Does anyone know?

the part number on the instruction pages that were posted in this or another similar thread indicated it was a Honda (Acura) accessory, and as such it would be avail much like a set of mudflaps. it will contain (i'm sure) the obligatory "i told u so" warning about taking your car apart and not being able to put it back together, or damaging it, along w/ a recommendation that you have tour dealer install it (like the a-spec kit).
there used to be some dealers that would not sell special tools from the factory to protect their service dept.s against losing service work, but those would be few and far between these days...
i'm looking forward to ripping the dash apart to square away the squeaks/rattles, install the quick-shifter, and hardwire my Garmin nav unit...

Acura of Escondido appears to have them in stock.

Bummer. Online store shows off-line (sorry!) due to inventory. Parts may still be available locally though.

I was at BAIERL Acura and spoke with the parts manager and the service manager there. The have the iPod Kits in Stock.
They also told me that the iPod Music Link is NOT compatible with the 04 and 05 TL's and will work with only the 06 onwards. The reason being that the wiring harnesses in the 06 is diferent from the 04 and 05. This was also confirmed to them by their Acura Rep. The parts manager also gave me the list price of the iPod music link to be $175 + taxes and about 2 1/2 hours labor to install...

Good to see another TL owner from the 'Burgh. I just spoke to somebody at Acura Customer Service and she told me the Music Link was not available until Jan. Shows what she knows. I think that others have spoken to their dealers and have been told that the initial release is only for the 2006, but one for the older models will follow. I might run up to Baierl and check it out. I may be the guinea pig for the TL.
PS - How's your service satisfaction at Baierl been so far?

More from CurryAcura:
The long awaited iPod connection link kit is here
The Acura Music Link kit allows you to play music files from your Apple iPod directly on your 2005 - 2006 TL audio system
Simply plug the Music Link cable installed in your glove box to the dock connector port on your iPod
The Acura Music Link can only be used with the Apple iPod (4th generation or later) and the iPod mini. This will not work with the iPod shuffle

I have talked to multiple dealers in the Washington DC area; some stating that only the 06 model will permit the ipod link installation, but have also been told that it will work for all 3 gen models. Has anything firm actually been released on this? I guess we shall know more as time goes by.

Music Link Installed
#107
Ok, so I got this installed on Friday. I thought I'd do a quick writeup. First off, I got a REALLY good price. I was charged $241 for the parts and 1 hour of labor at $93. That, after tax, brough the total to about $353.
So, at first, I thought it would be really annoying that I couldn't see track info. After using it for the weekend, I realize it's a bling thing and not all that big of a deal. I prefer to have my navi page up rather than the audio page. I have over 2500 songs currently on the ipod, and I know all of em pretty much. I don't really need to see what I'm listening to.
I also spent a full day going through all of my music and making a TON of playlists. I use this to figure out what I want to listen to, and I find that navigating it to the proper playlist isn't THAT bad. It takes some getting used to because you have to have the right timing in order to push the seek button. However, after using it for a bit, I can imagine that it will become second nature.
I love the quality of the sound. It's the best I've heard out of anything I've tried. Integration w/ the steering controls are a huge bonus too. It's also very clean, as the ipod goes into the glovebox, and I see no wires at all.
I would say that all in all, I'm pretty darn happy about it. The cord is kinda meh, as in it is a lil difficult to remove it, but it's not too bad. I'm not sure if I would pay $500 for the solution, but $350 was reasonable to me.
Just thought I'd try to shed some more light on the situation. BTW, I have a 2006 TL. Everything works great.
If you take some time to organize your music, using the TTS options aren't too bad. If you are the kind of person that wants to choose each and every song at any given time however, I don't think this is the solution for you.

Harman-Kardon solution
After looking at Acura's weak attempt at iPod integration I decided to go with the Harman-KArdon Drive + Play solution. I just had it installed. You can see my intial thoughts here:

I'll post pictures soon.

I'm in Austin, Texas.
So after several days of having this, I love it. Best solution out there, even though it's lacking. At least the ONLY problem left, as far as I'm concerned, can be fixed with software to the nav system. This means that there's a chance that Acura can come out with something better (unlikely, but you never know =P)

Anyone install this in a 2004 Non-Navi? Is the stereo in a 2005 different in some way that would cause it not to work on a 2004?
How hard it is to install yourself?
