Anyone have a template for mounting a sub in the trunk??
Hey guys,
I've been geta ting pretty annoyed lately with my sub rolling around in my trunk. I have 1 10" in a small box and have been trying to think of a way to keep it from moving around.
I know a lot of you audioheads have done some really cool stuff in the trunk. I'm just looking for a template so I can cut a piece of wood, cover it with black fabric, and screw my sub box to it easily and have it be clean.
Anyone have a template I can trace over some plywood/MDF?

i have a template i can mail you, Q. here are some pics of what i did. PM me your mailing address if you'd like the outline.
nothing too fancy but i like the way it turned out.
picked up some MDF, traced out template for trunk beauty panel, cut the MDF to size, wrapped in matching charcoal carpet, used 3m adhesive spray to hold it down. wrapped another piece of MDF for an amp rack which is in the spare tire area. wraped another piece of MDF as a trunk tray to hold up the beauty panel and sub/box. screwed in 4 pieces of wood to hold the sub box in place behind the beauty panel. used second skin damplifier on the rear deck, entire trunk, and front door panels.
system includes the following...
-massive ck6 front components/tweeters
-JL 12w6 in sealed box (larger than factory size)
-JL 500/1 for sub
-JL 300/2 for components
-LOC
-line driver
-various wiring

Some members have a fiberglass box made by (retired) vendor "uncald4". They can be found in the Black Market every once in a while.

You can always make a baffle that goes behind the seats and you could make a bracket that attaches the box to the baffle and that will keep it from rolling around

Infinitely baffle. The W6 sounds amazing like that and you get your trunk space back. Power requirements are cut in half. It solves the moving around issue as well.
I don't know what's wrong with my picture hosting, can't make it any larger than that.
I would be worried about getting in a wreck with anything not bolted down. That sub and box can make it through the rear seat and into the cabin. Can you bolt it to the cross braces? Use "L" brackets to the floor (in the right spots of course). Bungee cords are fine to keep it from moving around but they're not going to keep something that heavy from hurting you in a wreck.

Hey guy's just recently bought a 04 TL and loving it so far. Working on some plans to upgrade the audio, done quite a few searches and it seems like IB is the way to go but haven't been able to find any DIY guides for it, anyone happen to have any plans for the board you would need?

you need to search some more. jayvee has a template available, but you really do not need one it is super easy to fabricate from scratch with a piece of cardboard.

I understand the forces exerted in an accident.
it will not make it thru the structure and materials in the TL from trunk to cabin
I dont think that should be a worry, but I would certainly secure the box

I can kick a hole through the rear seat and that's nothing compared to an accident. The box can disintegrate leaving the sub loose. A 30lb sub will easily make it through the braces and seat material. People have been decapitated by their subs before. Its just like seatbelts, they're much more effective when snug so your body doesn't get a running start. If the car goes from 70 to 0 in 1 second, you have a 70 lb mass going at 70 mph into the back seat.
