Anyone Experience Rearview Camera Problems?
Anyone Experience Rearview Camera Problems?
Hello everyone,
I ordered a rearview camera from Wendy off of E-Bay about a year ago like most of the people on the forum who have had the rearview camera mod done and things were going great with it up until recently I started experiencing some major problems.
I had one of my installers install the camera itself so I'm having trouble pinpointing what the problem is.
Basically what happens is that sometimes when I shift the car into reverse, the camera kicks in, the image will be normal and a second or two later, the image gets all weird and distorted. Sometimes the screen turns black and grainy too. Also sometimes when I shift into reverse, the image won't even appear normal at all from the get go and will be nasty and distorted. These issues started to appear on an irregular basis for a while but now it pretty much happens everytime I'm in the car.
I believe that it could be a problem with one or more of these pieces.
1) Camera itself - becoming defective. If this is the case, anyone know if Wendy off of E-Bay covers issues like this?
2) Wiring becoming loose or defective.
3) Problem with Dom's video converter unit. I have a DVD player hooked up to the other video input and that works fine but the input that the camera is hooked up to might be having issues.
What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been having the exact same problems (can't describe it any better than you did!). I actually installed my camera myself, but I still can't pinpoint the problem. I think it might be where the camera wire plugs into the long wire that connects to Dom's box. This connection, for me, is made within the hinge of the trunk. When I take it apart it looks like the connection might be separating from using the trunk, so I am going to try relocating it higher up within the trunk lid itself. Problem is, even with the plastic hinges removed and the plug connection tight, it did not work perfect every time.
I know that didn't make much sense at all, but hopefully someone out there has a better answer!

I'm having a grainy screen aswell, but that's the only problem so far. The screen is grainy sometimes, not all the time. I didn't install it so I don't know where to even look to find the problem. It's not a big deal YET!!! but most issues like these start out minor, and then get worse over time. I hope this is not the case with my camera.
Same issues with "Wendy's" camera
Did anyone get this resolved, have identical problems and hooked up a TV monitor direct to the camera bypassing Dom's box. I think Wendy's camera is the culprit.
Suggestions for replacement welcome - Thanks

I think they're just cheaply made.
I think the "best camera" you could get would be the OE one.
I also had issues with Wnedys camera. Just stopped working. It also was apparently NOT waterproof. I replaced it with this camera and have had no problems whatsoever. I think the picture quality is even better than Wendys and the way the TL is designed, it fits up under the trim pieces and is hard to see by someone just 'walking by'

A pic when you have the time will be helpful to give us an idea...

Mine's going 18 months strong.
Key rule, NO high pressure water on the rear of the car. NO auto mated car washes... and most importantly of all, NO dealer washes (which is usually a combination of both above).
Where are you with those pics Jeff? I just bought the Dice, going to buy the navtv2go thing, and this is next. I need a proven camera. You local guys know Dennis lives a ways from Germantown! So no mistakes allowed!

Mine has been working like the day I installed it. I'm knocking on wood now so that I don't jinx myself.
Mine works fine.
But it has on occasion made that weird almost neon looking distorted looking lines around things. Its done this once or twice since I've had it. Nothing for the past few months....

I think it needs to be set on the upper part of a license plate frame though. So what I think I'll be doing is getting a silver license plate frame and install the camera on top of there. I ordered the silver camera today. I think the black might look a little out of place and might be a bit more noticeable than the silver. I might be wrong about this so I'm hoping I made the right choice
