Anyone else competing in audio competitions?

My friends finally talked me into entering my 05 TL into a MECA car audio competition. After four shows in the Stock class I am 4-0. Qualified for finals in Nashville in a few weeks. We will see how the TL stands up to the rest of the stock cars out there. Install and system is very simple, gets great SQ points and hanging out with my old friends again has been fun! I'll keep you posted.

System: OEM head ------->OEM amp------->AudioControl LC6----->AudioControl DQS--------->Old school Orion 900.2 on DD 6.5 in the door and Stock (YES STOCK) tweets. Orion 500.4; one channel feeding the STOCK sub (doesn't get loud but does sound good with the correct tuning, I score 8 out of 10 on sound) one channel feeding the center channel the remaing two feeding a pairof ID 5-1/4's in the rear.

I will be in Etheridge, TN for the Tennessee State finals 10/9 thenMECA finals in Nashville the last weekend of Oct. I am already the Alabama Stock champ and have beat 6 cars with full aftermarket systems. Considering driving up this weekend for the KY state finals.

Check out Mecacaraudio.com

If I decide to compete again next year I am going to install my old ID mini comp 2 horns and finally a sub box and two more amps. All of which I already have just want to go thru finals as a stock car to see what happens.

Wish me luck!

Kirk,
Congrats on the successes in competition! Can I ask why you are using the stock amp and the LC6 in your car? The output from the factory head unit is low level and around 1 volt. You could solder RCAs onto the output of the stock head unit and run that directly into your DQS. I believe this is a cleaner and simpler approach. Good luck and keep us posted on how you do at Finals.

If the output of the head unit is 1 volt, wouldn't the up to 9 volt output of the LC6 be better? I am going to try a different LOC next week just to see what happens.

9 volts would be better, but the DQS can increase the signal voltage on it's own (up to 7.5 volts I've read). Based on that information I thought the LC6 to be redundant. However, even the owner's manual for the DQS suggests adding a line driver. My other implied question was why send the signal through the stock amp in the first place where it will add distortion to the signal? There may be merit to your set up that I am unaware of (I wouldn't be surprised since it seems to be working in competition). I guess I would like to hear more about your conclusions about your set up:
Has the DQS had any impact on the sound quality outside of it's EQ capabilities - in other words - with all equalization set to flat is there an audible change in the sound? The reason I ask is because I want to know if the additional conversion of the signal to digital then back to analog has any audible effect.
Do you have the DDC controller for the DQS? If so, where is it mounted (pics)?
I am seriously considering the DQS myself so please share your experiences.
Thanks.

JOb well done with the 4-0 record. I think we would like to see some pics of your system if you have any.

I suppose I could have done without the LC6. I havent tried the system without it. I am trying a different LOC this week to see if its any better. I would like a little more volume for competition. There is plenty of volume for street listening but in the SQ comps they are so strict on any hiss or system on/off pops I have to keep everything turned all the way down. I do have the DDC controller and I would not get a DQS without it. It is not mounted any where. I just pull it thru the ski hole to tune then put it back in the trunk. Another advantage of the DQS is with the 30 bands of EQ per speaker you can use it as a crossover as well. Just turn the bass down on the high side, band pass the center speaker etc etc It is a great piece.
