Anyone already install Vsokolov's Plug & Play unit?

So, I have just received my Plug & Play unit from Vsokolov to convert my navi into DVD capability...

has anyone already installed this? if so, could you please post instructions and pictures?

is anyone planning to connect this with an XBOX? if so, where do you plan on placing the xbox?

thanks, in advance!!!

I'm thinking about selling the XBOX and getting the PS2 slimline or just a separate DVD player...I need to research on how each of these DVD sources affect the picture quality...also I think XBOX might be too "chunky/big" to fit in certain areas that I was thinking about...

PS2 slimline would fit in the glove compartment...

a separate dvd player could fit in the glove compartment as well as the rear armrest (where the cupholders are)...

so I think I might just sell the XBOX and go with either PS2 or the separate DVD player, but before I do, I want to see what others with XBOX's are doing lol...

I just started my install last night. Doesnt take that long . My xbox will sit in the back on the floor until I can actually find find a PS2 slim to buy! Picture is great works really well. I may scrap the xbox Idea though since it is so big

What are you using for audio? I am debating on getting the new connector by usa-spec or go FM modulator. While I have done stereo installs many of times before I just dread doing this one. I think it's kinda because I am burnt out.

I know that JDM really wants to keep XM, so I'm quite positive that whatever audio source he chooses, he will maintain his XM

Exactly. There is a connectorout that is like a Y it plugs into the back of the radio into the XM spot then XM connects to that and the Aux/Audio inputs connect into that. That connector is $110 which isn't all that bad I guess. My main thing is that I don't want to pull that nav unit outta the dash. If I have to I will but I really really don't want to. I am noise free and would like to stay that way (especially with all the rattle threads).

So I am thinking of picking up a DEI FM Modulator tonight but I am unsure how it is really going to sound. I heard an Audiovox FM Modulator last night and it sounded like shit to me. I have never used one so I dunno what to expect.

Is it possible to access the "white AUX input" harness adapter behind the head unit without taking apart the dash?

I know that in my other car, 1992 Nissan Stanza (yes it's really different han the TL, lol), I was able to access the back of the unit without taking apart the dash...maybe someone with some skinny hands could try accessing that...then all we would have to do is plug in the "y-adapter" that you are talking about into the "white aux input" area and then go from there....

is it possible? if i had my car right now i would try it...but since i don't have it, would it be possible for someone else to give that a shot? take a flashlight and go by the driver side pedals and just maneuver your hands around the back end of the head unit and see if you can at least touch the "white aux input"...

new connector? This is the first I'm hearing of this? Can you please provide a link or model # so I can reference it? I couldn't find anything on this forum or at usaspec.com. Thanks!!

I JUST FINISHED HOORAH! Anyway yeah i said screw the blitzsafe adapter bc I dont wanna take out the navi unless it truely works completely with no known flaws. Right now people have to have the switch set to on when they start the car then click it off then on again? Rediculous! I just did a wireless FM transmitter. Who cares if my movies are a lil staticky for now? I am waiting for a truely compatible harness. My xbox is on my back seat btw...

Also, i used add a circuits on to power my conversion unit and my fm modulator. But they dont seem to lose power when i shut off the car. Which fuses (fuse number please because the map thing on the fuse box cover is cryptic!) should i be tapping. I am currently using 2 that have no fuse in them.

So how is the wireless FM modulator? I worked on mine last night and just got the Navi Plus uniit installed. I was trying to tap into the rear antenna but nobody offers a smaller style motorola connector. This weekend I need to install the FM modulator (wired) and my DVD player. Still lots of work left.

I can't find the AUX unit in autotoys. The link takes you to the main page. I'm very interested to see if the unit reallys works.

I don't want to use a FM modulator and would rather have the AUX.

JDM5lughatch:
Did you try to squeeze your hand behind the head-unit to see if you could attach the Y-adapter without removing the head-unit? and ludachrist said that his wireless FM modulator was giving him static in his sound quality...he said this "Who cares if my movies are a lil staticky for now?"...so i don't think that wireless would be a good option...

anyone purchase the AUX inputs from vsokolov and try them to see how that works with the sound?

Yeah I wonder what wireless FM modulator luda used. Another member said he used a Rosen wireless and it's really clear. I picked up a DEI (wired) last night. Maybe I will order a Rosen one and see how it sounds. I dunno. I tried to get my hand behind the radio and it's not happening. I would trade off a couple cuts and bruises for not having to remove the Nav unit. Video is crystal clear. I just plugged my DVD player into the cigarette lighter to see if the video portion worked before I put the seats back in. Now I just have to install the FM modulator and the DVD player.

JDM - why arent you going with the AUX from cartoys. You will have better sounds quality and you still get to keep your XM..

there are many FM modulators out there, so how do we know which one is the best one? don't they have to follow the same logic? wouldn't they all be created in the same manner (just difference in quality of parts i guess), but are there really any good brands that have shown consistent quality?

i think it may just be better to get the AUX inputs from vsokolv...hardwiring would definitely be better than wireless (in my opinion)...i don't care about XM so i think i might just go down that route...

but let's see what others are doing and then maybe they could give us some feedback on the product(s) that they have used...

just a FYI

you can get the plug behind the radio out without removing the entire navi unit. i did it myself, it's a bitch to do, almost no room to get 2 fingers in there, but i was able to do it

also that adapter will NOT work on a TL, i tried it myself last month which is how i found out how to get my hand in there, if you plug that thing in you lose the entire touchscreen function. it works on a TSX, but not a TL.

Thats good info for everyone.

Do you think it's possible to reach the FM antenna from the back. Maybe I can get a friend with skinny hands to reach it for me. I really don't want to pull the dash out however, looks like that is going to consume my sat. evening.

any of them will not work

the aux input and autotoys are the same as the blitzsafe one, pictured below

basically all it is, is the soundgate adapter, with the extra harness which only has 3 wires, the stock plug has over 10, so unless those other wires and dead, it can't work. and since i tried it myself i know it doesn't. right now we are stuck with the FM modulators

Cool but how big is your hand? I'm a pretty large guy, 6'3" so I may be out of
luck. I'm going to try to get to the antenna this evening. Of course, how do you
know what you are even going after. Is there a diagram somewhere of it all?

1) AUX inputs from vsokolov?

2) Icon modulator (wired/wireless) from vsokolov?

3) Any other FM modulator?

AUX will give you the best sound but you need to give up XM.

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of fm modulator to get.

Just so you guys know. I tried Wireless FM Mod I think NAV TV and then wired FM mod, same company and down here in Tampa, FL and all the way to Key west the SQ SUCKED. Static like crazy.

I finally had the guys at a stereo shop tap into the XM with a switch. So I just flip the switch (which is located in my cup holder on the side) and I hear the audio from the DVD player.. Flip the switch back and bam XM. i didn't wanna give up XM so this was my option.

XM Is full power but the DVD Audio is a little lower since tapping into the XM .

Dvd Player is in the glovebox in case anyone is wondering. If you guys want pics I can post them here tomorrow. At work right now.

Actually maybe I will make a thread with my car.. Not much done, except a big system install and dvd / navi conversion. Rims and everything come march 06

So you don't have to do anything special with the switch or can you just turn it off and on at will? What did they charge you?
