Anybody try to create a DTS CD?

I know all the talk is on making DVD-A's. The TL audio system has a DTS decoder and some commercial disks like the Eagles Hell Freezes Over are just a CD with DTS 5.1. That disk sounds as good as many of the better DVD-A's and better than a lot of the poorly mixed DVD-A's out there.

Question, is there any way to extract the DTS tracks off of a DVD video and then burn them to a CD? It would seem like an easy way to get 5.1 surround since a lot of the DVD convert videos have DTS tracks.

I'm not ready to go through all the hoops to create a 5.1 DVD-A, thought this might be an alternative.

Any audio/DVD experts out there got an answer?

1) Rip to HDD with a ripper.
2) Use DVD2AVI to down-mix multichannel audio to stereo. plus 48Khz-->44.1Khz. Saves as one huge wav file. Lots of guides on the web, Google it.
3) Use a wav edit tool to cut into tracks CD Wave Editor 1.94 is great for this. Used to be free but is now "free to try". Again Google it
4)Burn CD with your burning software

Sure it isn't multi channel but for in the car they sound great.

Talking Ask and you shall receive....

Here is a list of the programs I used to do this conversion:
• DVD Decrypter
• DVD2AVI
• BeSweet
• BeSure
• HeadAC3che
• SurCode CD Pro DTS (this one is the kicker. If you're honest, you can pay $499 for this 1.5MB encoding utility. If you're dishonest, you probably know where to find a copy)
• Your favorite CD Burning Program (I used Nero)

1. Open DVDDecrypter
2. Make sure it is in file mode (Mode – File)
3. Select Tools – Settings
4. On the File Mode Tab – Select File Splitting to None
5. Select Files and IFOs (Edit – Select Main Movie Files + IFOs)
6. Select Destination folder
7. Right click on highlighted files and choose Stream Processing
8. Deselect all except Audio – AC3
9. Highlight Audio – AC3 and choose Demux and OK. Process should start and take about 20 minutes.

10. Open Chapter-X-tracter
11. Click on Customize Tab
12. Scroll down to Open IFO – Choose appropriate IFO (use AC3 name as hint)
13. Song numbers will be listed – beware of leading and trailing songs
14. Select songs you want
15. Click on Format tab
16. Select Preset: BeSplit
17. Choose AC3 file from above as filename
18. In the directory file, be sure it does not have a “\” at the end of the directory! Example: D:\DVD\ IS WRONG!, it should be D:\DVD . You will have to correct this in the printout window, also. This will put the file under the D:\ root directory and name the files DVD01.ac3, DVD02.ac3, etc.
19. Hit the GO button in the bottom right.
20. Separate AC3 files should be created for each selected song. Process should take about 2 minutes.
21. See log file to see where the AC3 files were created.
22. Get an AC3 plugin for a media player (e.g. winamp) and listen to the AC3 files that were created, especially beginnings and endings. If they need to be recreated (songs weren’t separated properly), now is the easiest time to recreate them.

23. Open BeSure
24. Find the files listed on the Files and Folders tab (should be there if used previously).
25. On the BeSweet Settings Tab, make sure Normalize is checked and select DTS-CD.
26. Select the Input Files dropdown, hit Add and file the select all the AC3 files created in step 20. Then hit OK.
27. Click the GO button. (Takes 15 – 60 minutes, depending on # of songs)
28. If needed, use VideoLAN’s VLC player to play DTS Wav files. These files can be renamed if desired.
29. If needed, use WAV Splitter to “trim” the DTS Wav files. The splitter won’t play them, but it will split them, based on time in milliseconds. Play them with the VLC player, get the start and end times, and use the Splitter to edit them.
30. Use Burning software (e.g. Nero) to make CD-R – this will create a CD that only a DVD player (with DTS) can play.

Props to frozenpenguin, Zon76, and WickedWiz for doing the initial research on this!
