Any way to keep power on for the 12v power socket?

Is there any way to keep the power on for the cigarette lighter that is in the center console?

I know some cars keep the power on for the 12v power socket and some turn off once the key is off.

I'd like to be able to keep the one in the console on so I can charge some things occasionally when I'm not in the car.

Is it easier to just run a wire from a 12v constant to the plug and just bypass the stock wiring? If so, what wire should I use?

Thanks

Just connect to constant 12v. Fuse it on your own. Depending on where you connect, 14-16ga wire should be sufficient.

Where would be the best place to find a 12v constant that is near the center console?

Thanks

My Traverse LTZ has this feature and I hate it. I wanted under dash lights and I can't hook them up to the 12V power wires.

Where would I go about accessing that? Will that mess with anything if I tap into it?

Thanks

Coming out of the steering column. It won't mess anything up as long as you do it right.

Or just tap it into the fuse box using an add-a-fuse to the power seat fuse (constant on).

This post is a little old but I wanted to bump it and see if there any other ideas for this. I have a 06 TL and would like the charger ports live all the time. I'd rather not run new wires and install fuses. Is there a 'cleaner' way to do this? Seems like I've heard of people doing a 'blader jumper' or something like that? Thanks!

I would do what GP16 suggested at the time, pretty much the cleanest you'll get.

You can't rewire it without running new wires

You only have to run 1 new wire. The wire can be like 3 feet in length.
Solder the positive lead of the lighter socket to one end of the wire, and put an add-a-fuse on the other side of the wire and plug into a constant on fuse. Done, hidden, happy.

In a shocking new scientific discovery, 12 volt DC can now be transmitted by osmosis eliminating the pesky wires and thus the potential of a short to ground also eliminating the need for a fuse.

The easiest way is to run a wire to the fuse box and use an add a fuse. Use this style:

Do not use this one:

I still prefer going to the ignition harness, main fuse box input, or direct to the battery, just because it will supply damn near anything that you want to plug into your 12v socket, save a microwave maybe.

If the $10 for the add-a-fuse and 6' of primary wire blows your budget, perhaps you may want to rethink your desire to modify cars.

Add a fuse is pretty damn clean way to achieve what you want. . What's a cleaner approach than that?
