Talking Another NON-NAVI to NAVI mod

I dont even know where to start..

I bought the parts from a totaled 04. Drove all the way to exit 68 on I91 in connecticut (i think thats right). that was last friday. I installed it today, so you know the anxiety to install it was killing me :ugh

I started at 9:30 am this morning. Drove to Jersey to meet up with Martin(hondaacuratech). Great Guy and great helper.. He knows way more than any Acura tech does. We started moving pretty fast until my radio unit that was attached to the screen gave me a problem. There was a cd stuck on the cd changer. I could'nt keep my original radio because for some reason there was a delay every time i pressed navi button. So I kept the radio I piked up from Junk yard and then swapped the cd changers.

After doing that we installed everything to then realize that the audio was not working in the HFL link. Everything else was working; e.g the navi HFL, the commands. The only thing we could'nt hear was the regular HFL link voice. So me and Martin could'nt figure it out. We checked everything, to come to realize that the HFL set up on an 04 is not the same as an 05. we had to re-wire original "mute" stock harness to the location it is on the 04. If it were not for the manual martin had, I would of been screwed.

We ended up finishing at 5:00. almost 8 hours. So I wanna thank everyone from az that helped (sorry if i misspell your sname). 1.my brother roman. 2. Martin(hondaacuratech) 3.Maddsiick 4.AcuraAddic 5.Wdp04tl 6.carrielynn..

This was not easy at all.. enjoy the pics...now i gotta learn how to Fu@k with it..

wow at least everything worked in the end bro...that ETM manual for th TL comes in very handy when doing work like this. i opt'd not to go with 04 equipment because some things on the 04 are different from 05+, guessing maybe because it was the first one for our generation TL. I figured that out when working on Xplicits '04 TL and while he was working on fixing his navigation system since all of a sudden it just stopped working...we noticed some of the wiring was a bit different as well.

damn a 4 hour job turned into an 8 hour job, i can imagine how anxious you were to finally get it working.

yup thats correct. the mute wire that silence the navi/radio to let the phone HFL was not giving audio. We had to switch the harness wire to match the 04 harness, due to my car being an 05..It was weird, I'm just happy it worked, BTW I used the costume harness inwhich is even crazier being that its just plug and play

his car came with navi from the factory, one day he was driving and hit a bump and everything just went out. an acura tech we know that is very knowledgable in acura parts said that Alpine changed the way the unit was built in 05 so 05+ is a different unit from the 04 model. it was something about the way the unit was designed so they just changed it. screen and everything are the same. HFL is obviously different as you experienced today.

after researching the Dvd unit and being on Aplines tech support they said the same thing about the player that it was made differently for 05+.

yea i figured you used the custom harness. we did it using stock wires harnesses and that was not where near a 4 hour job, not even an 8 hour job. we estimated atleast 10 and did it in 13. ran all new harnesses from EVERYWHERE in the car! that sucked.

congrats on the navi now get an updated disc and hack that $hit!!

profe: so basically you feed the wires from navi/changer into the existing harnesses?

did you have to cut your existing non-navi wires?

I've been contemplating this move for a week now

nope. I got the costum harness that is sold on ebay by martin. My existing non-navi harness are behind the screen, and they are not being used. I didnt go with removing the harness from the totaled car cause it would involve tearing both cars apart. hope this was helpful

So your happy with Martins work?? I am thinking of having him do this install for me in the spring. We are going to do a meet half way thing like you did!! I'm opting for his parts though!! I don't mind spending the money for the new parts instead of tracking everything down!! I short on time these days!!

martins work is really good, i can vouch for it, i know el.profe can too. His parts arent new, they are used in VERY good condition, only the little things are new like the buttons and antenna. it works out to be cheaper if you have the time to research and buy everything, i saved $700 by getting all the parts myself and just getting the harness from martin. if you have the money though then hes the man to go to, at least with him youre garunteed that everything will work. i took a chance with used parts from ebay. i guess i lucked out

yup, what maddsiick said. Martin is the best, I still talk to him even after the install. Hes a great guy, too bad hes not aware of all the props we give him. But do what I and Maddsiick did. we searched for parts. I got lucky to get all my parts in one shot from a junk yard. If you have the cash then get everything from Martin. And I went to his house, it was like a 20 min ride.

I live in ohio so the full drive to his house would be hard! I appreciate the feedback!! I'm 98% sure that I am going to do this in February or March! So I will keep my eyes open for a system? But more than likely I will just get the parts from him! How long did the install take?? El.profe, i know yours took longer due to the wiring problems?? What would be the normal install time?? Anyone know??

normal time is around 4hrs alone, 2hrs with help and 8hrs when you get all the trouble I did, and also if your not familiar with wiring.

yeah like el.profe said, it takes about 4 hours alone, which is how long it took me, 2 hours with help and 4+ hours if you run into problems during your install.
