Exclamation Amplifier Problem & Question

So I decided to tackle replacing the stock sub this weekend and ran into a problem. Each time I turn on my amp, a light that indicates low ohms (an amber light) is on with the green power light and I get nothing from the sub itself.

The first time I was getting a little bit from the sub with a little distortion, then I went to adjust the gain on the LOC and then the sub went totally mute. The amp still indicates its getting power with a green light but the amber "low ohm" light still stays illuminated.

According to the JL website: “Low Ω” (Amber): lights to indicate that the impedance of the speaker load connected to the amplifier is lower than the optimum impedance load range for the amplifier. When this light is on, a protection circuit engages and reduces the power output of the amplifier. The amber indicator will also light when a short-circuit is detected in the speaker wiring (this can be a short between the positive and negative speaker wires or between either speaker wire and the vehicle chassis).

I checked my ground and used the one picture which is one i've seen other members use. I left the original ground wire that was there on top of my amplifier ground cable, they sit on each other with the amp ground contacting the metal.

I am running a 4 ohm sub so I don't think that's the problem. I even tried different speaker wire to make sure the speaker wire itself didn't have a short in it.

The only other reason I can think of to cause this is because the factory signal runs at 2 ohms but I haven't seen any other member on here run into that problem. Im running a Scosche FAI-3A LOC I got from walmart if that matters.

The amp is telling you that the problem is on the output side so concentrate there. Try and disconnect the speaker wire. Does the low ohm light go out? If it does that's good. Next try and connect the speaker wire without the speaker; make sure to protect the output leads (electrical tape or the like). The low ohm light should still be out. Next try the sub. If the light comes on try another speaker. If another speaker still causes the low ohm light to come on then the amp could be the problem.

Good luck.

What amp?
What sub?

Telling us what sub and amp you are using would help troubleshoot the problem

Well I trouble shot this today and even when I had the sub disconnected, the low ohm light was still on. Called JL tech support and they said the amp was defective with that situation.

New amp here we come! Hope its here by the weekend!
