Amp/Sub Wiring Questions
Searched the forums but couldn't find all of these questions answered, so here we go:
I'm sure I'll come up with more questions, but I just want to make sure I do this the right way and do it the cleanest possible. I'd really like to not have to cut the factory harness to tap into the pre-amped signal, but I guess if there's no other solution I'll be forced to do so.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
- Is there an after-market harness available that I can purchase so I can tap into the input of the amplifier, but not have to cut cables on the Acura harness already in place? If not, please suggest the best way to go about cutting the wires, and what I should use equipment/accessory wise to tap into the stock harness.
- What is the easiest way to run the power wire from the battery to the trunk? Someone else has told me there is a pass-through already in the firewall I can use, but I am not able to find it.
- How hard is it to get to the stock sub to disconnect it? I do not want to cut any cords, just simply disconnect the wire so it is inactive.
- To get to the stock amp in the passenger kick panel - does this panel just pop out, and do I have to remove anything else to pop out this panel?

Well, after lookin aroud some more I think I may have found where some wires pass through the firewall on the drivers side, but it definitely isn't convenient to get to. I'd have to run the wire from inside of the car, through the firewall, and into the engine bay, and hopefully be able to grab it from there and pull it through. There is a rubber seal around the group of factory wires and I doubt there is enough room for me to squeeze another cable through there. Can I cut the rubber a bit to make more room for my power cable? If so, what should I use to seal it back up? I've seen others dab silicone around it, but not sure if this is a good idea for rubber.
firewall holes are in different parts for automatic and manual.. you can use a little silicone if you want.. i didn't..
the amp panel.. just give a little pull.. that's it.. may have to peel back some of the weather stripping, becuase the panel grabs onto that.
you will have to tap the wires "after" the amp, use an "audio link" hi lo converter.. very easy..
you have to take apart your rear deck in order to get to the sub.. back seat .pillars etc.. all you have to do is cut the wire at the stock amp. this is where you tap in for your hi lo converter anyway..

Can you tell me or take a picture where you ran yours through? Mine's an automatic, so if yours is as well that'd be greatly appreciated.
I assume by your recommendation to just cut the wires to the stock sub that you left it in the rear deck? I was hesitant to do this as I thought it may rattle and resonate, which may not sound good.

I ended up figuring it out on my own
Ran it through the same hole. Sounds SO much better than stock sub did (of course). I had a problem getting the back of the back seat out, though. I ended up just taking out the bottom of the back seat, and unbolting the bottom of the back of the back seat to where I could pull the bottom out slightly to pass wires through to the trunk. Turned out to be a very neat install. I didn't take the stock sub out, however. Mainly because I didn't want to remove the back of the back seat. I found it to be very difficult to remove the bolds in the headrests of the back seat. Was worried I'd drop the bolt down the back of the seat or somethin, so I decided not to remove it after unscrewing the first bolt about 1/2 way.
Thanks for posting the link, though.
