Amp recommendation ...

Thinking to sell my pdx 4.100 and Pdx 1.600 to fund a new Alpine Pdx V9.

It would be a great one amp solution for my front stage and idmax 12 d2 IB. It also comes with a sub remote control which my 1.600 doesnt have. Im planing on getting the jbl-ms 8. While contolling the volume on the deck i could control the sub with the remote.

It would be preamp from stock head unit - rfBld- ms8 - alpine pdx v9

500 watts to idmax
200watts bridged to each side

Any reason i should get the jl audio hd 900/5 over it. The pdx v9 is $500 shipped at woofersetc.

Also wondering if the v9 could use the two front channels to play the sub without feeding the actual sub preamp from the headunit.

I would still do the 900/5. They're proven very reliable, run cool, have an extremely low practically non-existent noise floor. They make the same power from 12.2v to 14.5 where the Alpine requires 14.5v to make rated power. The single cycle technology is still unmatched for sound quality and a lack of noise. Obviously I haven't heard the Alpine so take this with a grain of salt but the JL is not sterile and cold as some class D amps are said to be. There is emotion in the music. I think the ultimate test is the fact that I have a McIntosh that I could use but after swapping them back to back in the same car on the same speakers, I chose the HD. I doubt anyone will dispute the legendary McIntosh's Sq.

With that said, I highly doubt you will be unsatisfied with the Alpine. 500w should be perfect for the Max in IB. That should be plenty to push it to it's mechanical limits on the low end.

I'd vote HD900/5 too. I'm still not over the debacle that was the gen 1 PDXs. I know the 2nd gens are better, but still. I've just had too many good experiences with the HD amps not to recommend them over PDX every single time.

P.S. buy authorized. Woofers etc is not.

There is a strong used market for both as well. If you want to save a buck I'd look that way from someone w/ authorized documentation. I've seen a lot of online stuff come in serial # defaced, damaged, or just flat inoperable.

I totally think the JL amps work so good with the OEM headunit that its a no brainer The 900/5 is a beauty! If you want to save some coin the 700/5 with the 300 available to an IB sub is more than adequate for these old ears! No subsonic though on the 700/5

I wish I could afford the JL amp right now. Anybody have any input on the Mb Quart ONX1.1000D?

Still considering the PPI 1300.1, but have a guy local that has the MB Quart going for cheap.

Quart is just re-badged Maxxsonics now. I would avoid it. Now an old QAA series, that's a different story.

Never used one but they get great reviews. I believe they have some processing built in.

My vote also goes to the JL HD 900/5 amp. I never had any problems with my amp and even after I removed my system. That was the only thing I kept just incase I want to use it for another car.
