am i underpowering my subs

i have two 12" infinity reference subs and im giving them each 150 watts rms, so half of it what they can handle. now they sound pretty good and tight. they could be more punchier thoe. but the problem is when i put the gain a little higher they becom very mudy and and not clean at all. I mean there is no punch at all its just feels like that the move air around. is it cause they are underpowered or would they need to have a stronger magnet so they return quicker...... ???

I like to give my subs more power than what is recomended by the Manufacturer. Basically get a better amp than subs. And make your box sealed and on the smaller side, sounds like you need a smaller box. Maybe a JL 500/1 with a sealed encloser.
