Alternator whine or bad stock amp?
Hi everybody,
My 2004 developed a high pitched whine in the left channels when the engine is on. It occurs throughout all radio functions - CD, XM, radio, etc. pitch gets higher and louder when accelerating.
With just the battery, no whine.
Not knowing about alternator whine, I bought a replacement used amp. Turns out it was partially broken. It didn't have any sound in the rear channels. But it did not whine in front when the engine was on.
Just now I pulled the front left tweeter. Didn't stop the whine, just made me realize it was not just the tweeter, it was also coming from the door.
So should I buy another amp or look for a way to ground things?
