Alternative out there to the PIE X3 converter?

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to do the Nav to DVD conversion and I know that I need Dom's video conversion unit but I had a question about the audio hookup of it. I know that the audio converter most people on this forum is the PIE X3 converter so I did some research into the PIE X3 converter and it looks pretty good except it looks pretty big and bulky and there are more Aux In inputs that I actually need. I see that it has 3 Aux In inputs but I actually only need one for the DVD player I'm hooking up. I would say that I could use the other Aux In's for my IPOD or something but I already got the Music Link.

Does anyone know of an alternative out there to the PIE X3 converter that does everything it does but is smaller and only has one Aux In input?

slimmyjimmy,

I was in the same dilemma as you and I performed an exhaustive search for exactly what you are looking for. Tell you the truth, I didn't find anything comparable to the PIE. I just installed the PIE and let me tell you...IT IS THE BOMB! granted I only use one input for my dvd player, but it will give you more options in the future to add more audio stuff. My advice is sell the musiclink and get an adapter to take up aux 2 on the pie adapter for your ipod. The unit is kinda big but if you mount it behind your glove box trim, then you wn't have any problems (didn't even have to tie it down because it fit snugly back there and there are no noise/rattles coming from it).

Also, switching b/w the aux inputs is SEAMLESS...no pops or loud clicks to annoy you once everything is installed....and the audio is SUPER clear. My recommendation is just get the PIE x3....works perfectly for the TL.

Here's a thread about an alternative to the PIE adapter:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131280

It is called the USA SPEC PA11-HON12. I am considering adding either the USA Spec or PIE adapter. I'm still not sure if one is significantly better than the other from an audio quality point of view. I tend to like the Direct Mode of the USA Spec for controlling my iPod so I'll probably be getting that in the next couple of weeks.

The nice thing about the USA Spec adapter is that you just switch to DISC 6 using the radio's CD changer controls to switch to AUX input.

Thanks for the advice! I just got rid of my Music Link and installed the USA Spec adapter. It's AMAZING! It even makes the Nav to DVD conversion really simple.

Awesome!
