I would like to know where to start. What mounting kit should I trim to fit, wiring harness, ETC. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not that no one cars, it's a topic that been discussed a lot on here. I'm thinking about doing a double din in mine. You'll find that some members think it's a sin to change your radio. I felt that way a few years ago but I think now the TL features (especially Nav) have become outdated and an aftermarket would be an upgrade. Just do a search on here and you can also try Google, just place "acurazine" in your search. Good luck!

Did you even bother searching? I typed in 3G TL aftermarket radio install and you gotta see all the info i got. The factory head unit can do A LOT of things, mine has full ipod control WIRELESS bluetooth audio and a bunch of other stuff including an aftermarket amp so it sounds real good. So for me an aftermarket radio wasnt exactly an upgrade.

thats because there are no "mass produced" mounting kits.
you'll have to go custom and fabricate your own mounting kit.
![Snicker](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/emot-laugh.gif)
and then dont forget about the half circles in the silver trim that you'll create by switching out to a different head unit.
you'll have to custom modify that as well to make it look like factory.
its a lot of hard work, and it seems as if you dont know the basics....which would be even harder for you.
its now easier to retrofit a tablet into the "nav" area than doing a full head unit install.

Yes i have all if not 90% of the goodies your aftermarket radio has. My sound is also very good in my opinion because of my amp, only the rear speakers and sub are powered by the factory amp which i couldnt care less for. Im going to add an aftermarket sub in my trunk soon (dont know what brand maybe Alpine) and im still keeping the factory radio, u look in my car and cant tell i have upgraded audio at all cant even see the ipod wire in my shit i love it dont have to worry about anybody breaking in my car anywhere i go.

Gil what all did you have to use to get all the goodies an aftermarket stereo offers and about how much did it cost? Also if I kept the factory headunit will the mids and highs produce enough sound to not be drowned out by the subwoofers?

TTT you know you can multi-quote.
Anyway, I went with an aftermarket stereo only because my OEM completely died. CD player doesn't work, at times if I switch stations; it freezes and I cannot turn it off or cycle thru any of the buttons. When that happens I also get no sound. I am also non-navi but will soon integrate the tablet soon. There is NO mounting kit for us 3G TLs like justnspace stated and will have to be custom built.
GIL do you have a 07-08 TL?

Evil im in the car now. The alpine double din im installing screws right into the factory radio stack. I bought a wire harness from best buy wired everything up and I have no sound!?! What wire do I have to splice into to power the factory amp in the car?

Actually that's is where I am stuck at too. I just install mine this pass Monday but I haven't had time to work on it because of work. I will tomorrow.
That's go to know that the Alpine double din fits into the factory radio stack. Have you try fitting the stereo in to test it? You just to make sure?

Yep everything screws into place just as normal. The half moons im gonna caver with a wrap kit and I plan on using a piece of plastic and a dremel to deal with the small gaps around the headunit. This is after I figure out my no sound problem!!!! Lol

EVIL I GOT IT!!!! Youll want to look at the large grey connector that you unplugged out of the factory headunit. Theres a red wire with a yellow stripe going through it. Youll want to splice the blue and white rem. Wire off of the aftermarket radio to that wire and that will turn the factory amp on!! I HAVE SOUND!!!!

I have the iSimple ipod integration which gives me the bluetooth and aux and all that good stuff which cost me $150 installed. Then after that i installed my aftermarket components speakers in the doors ($80) and my aftermarket alpine amp ($100) for those speakers so right now i actually have a lot more mids and highs than bass since im using the factory sub but then again thats a GOOD problem to have. Worst for me is when the bass over powers everything, sounds like crap. Got this all done for around $300.

awesome job at figuring out that you dont need a mount, by yourself!!!
we might not have all the answers, and sometimes its best to dig a hole and find out whats going on yourself!

Evil I used an alpine double din.. theres reallly no gap on the top the sides and the bottom are the ugliest part. I havent had time to tinker with it since the last time but the tv clears everything it slides right down when loading cds and what not. The downside is I hear feedback wjen the volume is on 0 is yours doing the same thing?

Thanks justn. It took a few hours but I got it and the new sound it produces is really clear I love it. Minus the feedback when the radio is on 0 any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hey guys I just wanted to confirm that to make this work you just got to use this harness and hook up the remote wire to red and yellow stripe wire. http://www.metraonline.com/part/71-1721
As for the dash kit you just make your own trim for it .
Any help would be great.
Thanks guys

I've had bad luck with those descriptions "98-Up". I doubt your 2004 TL has the same harness as a 1998 Civic, which should apparently also fit a 2012 MDX lol, but I could be wrong.
The best thing to do is try to find a store that sells them locally and drive out there with your radio out to see if it fits. It seems like a hassle, but ordering and sending back a bunch of these is even more of a hassle. Maybe someone can confirm.
Generally, the Metra harness has a blue wire with white stripe for REM to the amp. Is that the one you're asking about?
