Aftermarket audio system quesitons
Aftermarket audio system quesitons
Hello there.
Due to the lack of TL audio system and the rattling from subwoofer, I finally
decided to move on to the next step.
I mostly listen to classic, orchestra, rock, ballad, and so on.
I would really love to hear very strong bass (subwoofer) when the timpani goes on or the bass goes on.
I was thinking of getting two Alpine type X 12" subwoofers.
Which subwoofer would be better for those generes of music?
Alpine? JL? MTX? When I tried to compare MTX and infinity, I realized that
MTX was much better when it was hitting.
Moreover, which amps should I buy to power up the subwoofers and speakers?
I will definitely leave the stock HU and amp.(due to the 5.1 channel perhaps?)
I think I need to buy 2 amps (1 for dual subwoofers and 1 for speakers)
Could you guys also recommend me speakers?
I think I love LIVE sounds (setting probably).
Also, what RMS wattage do I need in order to feel bone-shaking from subwoofer?(hehehe I love that)
YEah... a Noob asking for a whole audio system recommendation.
I apologize to ask you such a broad question and thank you for your help.

No worries, thats why were here.
1st- stick with a reputable brand for your equipment (Alpine, JL, RF, Focal, Diamond Audio, etc)
2nd- If you retain the stock amp, you will need something along the lines of the JL Clean Sweep or the Rockford 3sixty. These are processors that help integrate aftermarket equipment into your factory deck. Your amps will need a certain voltage signal coming into them from the deck to be happy. And the higher the voltage output signal from the deck, the cleaner the signal, less noise interferance, and the louder it can play.

3rd- It is up to you, your budget, and how extreme you want to go. For instance, you mentioned the Alpine Type X subwoofers. Excellent sub, 1k watts continuous, but, you will need an extremely powerful amp to run them (they would be happy with 2k-2500 watts continuous power for a pair). This will be a very large current draw on your electrical system compares to say a pair of JL W6's, 300watts continuous per sub (they would be happy with 600-800watts continuous power for a pair).
Running something a little less powerful will not put such a strain on your electrical system (thus preventing the upgrade of the battery, alternator, the use of multiple capacitors, etc). You don't need an overly powerful system to have good sounding music.
It also seems like you would be happy with a sealed enclosure for your subs. Keep 1 thing in mind, a good sub in the wrong enclosure generally will sound worse than a crappy sub in the right enclosure.
4th- Do you know what type of mids/highs you like? There are so many different type out there it would take forever to list them.
If you decide to stick with 1 or 2 brands, I would. You need to find a reputale shop in your area that you can go and really talk to someone, listen to a variety of different components, and really see what your preference is like.
Take some of your most-listened music with you when you do.
If you decide to keep the stock amp for your mids/highs, you won't need an aftermarket amp (Can't run both).
Hope this helps, and let us know if you have any more questions.

That type of music you like to listen to try give a listen to Diamond Audios for your Mids and highs. If and when you ever decide to replace your mids and highs of course. But if you are going with after market sub and amp with the kind of power you are talking about I am most certain that after you do that your base will over power your mids and highs and you will wish you upgraded your mids and high along with your sub. Just my two cents...
Hello there.
Thank you very much for your information.
For the type of songs I listen to, I will list some of examples that you know.
The Pirates of Caribbean I (He's A Pirate, Black Pearls) is one of my favourites and
when the timpani or low bass drum plays, I want to hear very strong attack&hit sound instead of thick bass that goes broadly.
I heard MTX is one of the leading subwoofer companies, but how about 6.5" speakers?? Any recommendation? I see that if I install strong subwoofer, I need to change my battery, alternator, and so on, but I do not want to change them.
If I want to leave the car stock (not the audio system), then what would be the maximum watt I can get for the subwoofer?
When I researched, the amps have 12.2v or 14.4v, but what volt does TL have?
If I know them exactly, I will try to organize the list of the amps, subwoofers, and speakers and you guys could help me narrowing them.
Thank you very much and enjoy your ride!
