Aftermarket amp question

When adding an aftermarket amp, has anyone tied into the low power signal before the stock amp with any success, or is adding an LOC after the stock amp the way to go? My main concern is losing the mute function with the Nav system if I tie in before the stock amp. Any experiences welcome.

Very cool!

I found a diagram of the pin out of the input and output harnesses of the stock amp on this forum and I saw a "mute" wire between the HU and Input to the amp. Thought maybe it was some sort of trigger and the muting for the Navi was done in the amp. Apparently it is done in the HU. Is this correct?
