Advice on Navigation & Service Issues
Hi Everyone,
I've been having a navigation problem with my 2008 Acura TL. About every 2 months or so my navigation system will stop recognizing voice commands. No matter what I say it always says "Please Repeat", "Could you say again", and "Pardon". I have brought it in to the Acura delearship twice already. It's done this 3 times to me. It will do this for like a day then start working again.
The problem is the 1st time I brought it in to the dealership they told me since they couldn't reproduce the problem it was nothing they could do. I told them it normally only does it for a day and by the time I can bring it in to service it is working again. The tech reset the navigation system for me and said if it does it again bring it in right away so they can see what it does and know where to look for the problem. Well the navigation system stopped accepting commands again on a Friday and I stopped everthing I was doing and went straight to the dealership. I showed the problem to the service representative and he achknowledged it and I demanded a tech see the problem to which the service representative agreed to. The quick check that the service tech did showed the microphone wasn't picking up sound. They told me they didn't have a loaner and I would need to bring it back in on Monday even if it was working again they know where the problem is now since they have seen it. Well I brought the car in on Monday and they told me they can't reproduce the problem so it's nothing they can do.
I demanded to speak with the tech and asked if he called engineering or even checked the microphone since that's where the problem was seen and he said no.
What should I do? How do I get an intermittent problem fixed? Should I write to the corporate office or just keep rushing to the dealership when the problems happens until they finally have time to fix it the day it happens?

By the way, what do you ride? Loud music? Fan speed over 3? Cuz that'll impact the Navi...
When the problem occurs I have tried turning the air off and the radio off and it still won't recognize commands. The tech did the same thing when trying.
Yup my 07 does the same exact thing its rare but when it does its kind of annoying. Mine doesnt do it all day it basically does it just one driving session then the next time you start the car its fine.
Dealerships annoy the shit out of me I dont understand why they cant do anything if you friggin tell them what its doing. "voice recognition intermitently not working" isnt that enough info for them to diagnose and figure out whats wrong. Worthless.

I hear you. I wouldn't even care if I could initiate the call from my phone and it automatically picked up over the speakers like most others do. Like you said, I don't even want to hassle with the dealer over it so I keep saying "Transfer" or "Redial".

Interesting they told me they checked and the problem was never heard of. The district manager was out to the dealership yesterday and they explained my problem to him and he authorized them to change the microphone. I'll see if that works.
I started experiencing a constant problem with my '06' TL last weekend. It no longer recognizes any voice commands. I took it to the dealer who attempted to reset the entire system, but since it won't accept voice commands, it won't reset. Their solution, replace the Voice Recognition Assembly, $704. They don't sell the microphone alone, which may be the only problem. A friend suggested trying to wire a small speaker in place of the microphone to see if it will interpret voice commands.
