almost every clip but 1 or 2 were fine. i've taken the dash apart numerous times to change a few things with my dvd install, and have only had to order 5 clips in total, but basicaally you can re bend the clips back since they are only metal

Maybe someday Honda will add the Music Link as standard equipment to the TL & other models.

Based on my install experience, it takes about 30 minutes of labor to install the short shifter extension after all disassembly is done. I doubt they will do it for free, furthermore, I don't think that Acura dealer will install an anauthorized mod on your car.

To me disassembly had several difficult points.
1. Removing top vents without a special tool. This one is not that bad, can be done by prying from sides with thin flat screwdriver.
2 Alluminium trim pieces on both sides of the center console. These were the worst to remove. I almost gave up right there. You need to apply a lot of force, but still be careful not to brake the plastic. During the removal, few clips fell off, but I found them later.
3 Glove box base. It is held by two plastic parts, one of them is easy to remove, but the second one was impossible. I scratched my palm, trying to reach it from behind, but still ended up braking it.

Everything else is easy.

after the first of the year?

I talked to my local parts dept today and they have some on order and expect them sometime after the first of the year, they say they'll fit 04-up acuras except the RSX, so my '04 tl should be good. They said ~350$ installed, subject to change.

If it doesn't show Artist/Title that will be a HUGE disappointment. The radio is weak as it is not doing RDS or CD-TEXT.

I agree with Oval, not reading RDS and CD-Text totally put my TL lower than a fucking Corolla. It's sad that Acura claimed to be technologically superior, yet still doesn't support the standards.

I agree, the lack of MP3, RDS and CD-TEXT are baffling to me. I would give up the DVD-A for those things. Even my 1998 Audi A8 had RDS. Don't forget the crappy sub woofer too. I guess they had to cut corners to keep the low low price of $36,000.

Yup both. My friend who has an XRS asked me to burn him a couple of .cue files last week. I asked him why and he told me that his car can read them.

As I understand it after looking at it, is that you still have to plug the device inline with your stereo. It doesn't use the built-in car bluetooth at all.

It uses bluetooth to transmit from the sender (attached to your iPod) to a receiver (installed via wires through an aux in to your stereo).

If anything, I would think it would cause interference with the HFL since you would have two devices communicating over the same frequencies.

just because its bluetooth doesn't mean its meant for the HFL in the TL....

HFL is just for your phone, nothing else

If this adapter doesn't show any info (artist, songs, etc) at all in our Navi, you guys should just use Peter Ubers method. It costs only 20 bucks. You can buy FM controller for your IPOD which is around 30-40 bucks. It works fine so far for me.

I was driving by my dealership today and decided to stop by. My friends ex-wife works there adn she usually hooks me up with service... Anyhow, she said that they are getting those iLink kits in tomorrow (16 Dec) and the total installed price is apprx. $420.

I asked if the info would show up on Navi, but they don't know yet, not until they get the unit with all manuals/info booklets.

I've put my name down as an experimental car (for their 1st install)... with an option if it DOES show up on Navi and if I get a discount by giving my car as a tester for the dealership techs. Now we'll see what happens

You can't install the Music Link with the PIE X3. The Music Link directly connects to the 14pin conector on the back of the radio. The PIE uses the same connector. You would use the PIE insted of the Music Link.

you can probably just splice the wires on the ipod bus cable that comes with the kit and link that to a 3.5" mini jack and use that as a line in

I assume you mean the cable from the iPod to the Music Link. That may work, but as we have been discussing here, is the input still active when the iPod unplugged (or some serial wires are cut to allow control)?

Music Link

Yes the link is still activated even when the ipod is unplugged. There is just no sound. Check ou the Thread titled "Music Link Experiment" there is a lot of detailed information on the pinout and people are working on what we can do to regain control of the ipod.

Any input and ideas and welcome!

iPod Music Link on 05 TL

I just had the iPod music link installed on my 05 Navi TL, picked it up today. Seems to work fine. Just as all the postings indicated, you don't get any listing on tracks, other than info like Disk 6-107.

One thing that I'm a bit concerned about is that the cable was installed through the back of the lower dash compartment (with the power outlet), rather than the glove box. It concerns me a bit, as the iPod does not fit completely in the compartment, a hangs over the lip of the trim. I usually put my cell in there when traveling, butwith it plugged in there, but the main issue is that you can't leave it plugged in and have it hidden should you leave it in the car.

It is nice to have it near by, as I found you can easily unplug it and select a "collection" and the plug it in to play that selection. It might be more difficult if it were in the glove box. I . Still not sure if I plan to have them move it back. Any suggestions??

Oh, FYI for those intersted, there was a section of the leather on the back of the drivers seat that was warn and they replace the leather under warranty. If you have the same problem, you might mention it at your dealer.

Was the install done at an Acura Dealer? I'm surprised that they would not install per Acura instructions. Did you ask for it to be installed in the console?

It may be to your advantage if you are planning to mod the music link to allow display and control from the iPod (we are working on this). If not, and you don't like the placement, the I would go back to the dealer and bitch that they did not install to Acura's instructions. You can print them out from earlier in this thread.

Did you get it installed at an Acura dealer. will th eMusic link go with an 04 TL with navigation. You can have the controls throught ipod. There is a thread which says how you can do it. I tried irt out on the musiclink which I have installed in my Honda Oddysey 06. There also they got the cable through the glove compartment which I dont think is a good place as it is diff to reach the ipod.
