Acura HFL and Samsung i730
I previously had paired my Samsung i730 with the HFL and was able to make and receive calls with no issue.
This past weekend, I loaded WindowsMobile5.0 on the phone through Verizon's website and now when I try to re-pair the phone with the HFL, it gets to the part of the pairing process where you give the phone a name. As soon as it gets a name that the system will accept, it disconnects immediately.
Any ideas?

... i dont know specifically what the problem is, but try to go to your phone's bluetooth link icon and go to previously paired devices and delete the devices if you can. retry the pairing
i doubt this will make a difference but try it

I tried for about 30 minutes last night to pair my VZ WM5 i730 with my 05 TL, no dice. As the user experienced the TL will request the name of the bluetooth device and then disconnect. Maybe I need to have bluetooth on prior to starting the car, no idea, still have to mess with it. This would really stink if it doesn't work, I would always use HFL with my i730.

Mine worked fine
I did not have any problem pairing my WM5 (verizon download) i730 with my TL (2004). I can make calls or receive calls without any problem, but as before, no battery, signal strengh etc on the HFL display.
Prior to WM5 from verizon website, I had SDWM5 (I think people from pdaphonehome knows what it is) and did not have any issue pairing or using my i730 with TL's HFL.

That is really odd. I didn't have the SD WM5 version prior, just pocket pc version and it was fine. Hmmm, guess I can try soft reset then try to pair. It disconnects when you name the connection with the Acura HFL, which I believe is the last part of the pairing.
Junbug - did you downgrade your radio for tethering or is it simply the VZ WM5 version?

I didn't have the SD WM5 either, but I never had any problems pairing with WM2003SE. I guess I'll try the soft reset before pairing too. I'm just staying with the latest radio version because I don't really use tethering, so there's no point for right now.
Junbug - can you answer call waiting calls now?

hank1105, I did not make any changes to the radio stack, as I don't really do tethering of the phone (no data plan). I just used the WM5 that I downloaded from Version web site. Since I had the SDWM5 installed prior to this, I had to use the SD's trick (putting the Version ID.text file) in order to install the WM5.
Here is what I did (as far as I can remember).
1. First put my phone's bluetooth setting to dicovery mode.
2. Click the button on the handle bar then said "Phone Pair".
3. When asked for the code: ####
4. Go to bluetooth setting.
5. Click on "Devices" tab.
6. Click on New Partnership.
7. Select the HandsFreeLink TM.
8. Type in code (I am not sure if this is where you get to ask to put the code in or not): #### (one from above).
By the way, I was doing this when I was driving. :P I had to stop before I could start the pairing as TL does not allow you to procede, unless your car is in Park mode. So the steps might not be precise.
baron2877, I never had any luck with call-waiting. I checked the Acura's web site about compatible phone list and it clearly states that the HFL's call-waiting does not work with Samsung i730.

Experience has taught me to not always trust the phone compatible list at http://hansdfreelink.com. Some of the info there is right, and some of it is DEAD WRONG. Get a bluetooth phone you like and test it yourself during the phone's return period.
I have a XV600 PDA phone from Verizon that makes and receives calls no problem, yet its listed as Not Compatible. My GF has a Moto E815 that shows Battery strength and signal level while their chart shows an X for displaying battery strength.
I'm considering the new Motorola Q due out next week which they haven't even started testing yet.

Ok, got it to work this morning. Guess it was my sequence of how I did it. Here is what I did:
1) Put i730 into discovery mode
2) Turn TL off, then to the ON position, but not starting the engine
3) Hit the HFL button the steering wheel, state "Phone Setup"
4) State "Pair"
5) State "a 4 digit number"
6) On the i730 select new partnership - once found enter the access number previously stated.
7) HFL will then request a name for the new connection - this is when it disconnected in the past, this time it worked without any issue.
8) Select finish on the i730
9) You should be golden

Connections drop repeatedly
I have a very different problem with my '04 Acura TL and recently upgraded i730 (to WM5). I have been able to pair without problem (multiple times), but virtually every call, a few minutes into the conversation I can no longer hear through the Acura's speaker, nor can I be heard. I quickly fumble for the phone and can continue the call there, though the Acura's display indicates it thinks it is still handling the call. This used to happen rarely under WM2003, but I'd always get an HFL announcement along the lines of, "Bluetooth connection has been lost...".
In addition, a short call that hasn't yet disconnected will often fail to hang up with the appropriate steering wheel button.
I even tried Jetware's software:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsu...sfreelink.html
...hoping that this might modify the Bluetooth stack. Unfortunately, I still have the same problems, though I like having the battery and signal strength shown.
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice here. Searching both here and the pdaphonehome.com forums did not yield any answers. I posted there too but have not heard anything yet.
