4ohm speaker and 2ohm mono amp.. please help?!
4ohm speaker and 2ohm mono amp.. please help?!
Im quite confused right now!!... Wanted to put something small in the daily driver.. i have
Kicker ZX300.1 Mono Amp (2ohm)
Kicker COmp CVR 12'' 2ohm (dual voice coil)
I thought by buying a 2ohm sub, i would be matching it perfect, however i guess my options for wiring are 1ohm and 4 ohm with the 2ohm sub.. I have it wired like this..

So im really running the amp at 4ohm, thus cutting the rms power in HALF??? Do i need a different sub or what?
I installed it, and it sounds decent, but it looks like im only running at 150RMS instead of 300 which i could be running with a true 2ohm load at the amp?

that is correct...u must energize both voice coils of a Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer...they can either be wired in series...in this case 2+2 =4 Ohm...or parallel 2/2=1...so you're stuck in either 1ohm or 4 ohm...doubling the power will not necessarily make it louder...it will run more efficeintly at 4ohms vs 2...but will also be a lot cleaner...doubling the power doesn't make your subwoofer twice as loud...to make your subwoofer appear to be twice as loud...you litteraly need ten times the power to increase your total about by 3 db...every 3db will appear to be twice as loud as the previous setup...best of luck...

Although I must say... I think you are 100% correct and there is nothing left to add.
Hey..I can be an asshole sometimes...but I feel that I can at least back my shit talkin up with the appropriate and correct knowledge!!!

I'm stressing out... it's been almost 3 weeks since I've had any tunes coming out of my car... unless you wanna count my blackberry playing music in my lap while i'm driving on the highway - lol
install is coming along nicely. should be done in a week.
