alpine says that new features added are details on map to show one way roads, there is no longer a male voice and the voice feed back (you say temp 68 and car repeats it) is gone, you can only say 68 degrees and the car will do it, no vice back.

So I'll assume that you didn't upgrade and have no personal comments to make - you just got that off the website, like I already did before asking for input from other users.

correct, I did not upgrade to the new version as I doubt my street is listed because it is a new construction area.

For Seawolf

Thank you for the information. Do you know if a Canadian version of the update is available.

Here's a question for you. I have an '06TL with navi - can I use the 4.62 update in my car? I'm in Canada and am moving to Halifax and need to get coverage in this area and apparently 4.62 has this coverage. I called Acura Canada but sadly enough no one there could give me a straight answer. TIA for the help!

Has anyone tried to get a free upgrade or "reduced price" from the dealership? From other posts the dealership usually refer you to the website.

I just bought an '07 today and it came with version 4.56 I believe. Kind of frustrating that you buy a new car and your DVD is already out of date.

Me too, just recently...it will be interesting to see if they accommodate.
If not, maybe someone who has the newer version will post it up some where where we can get it. Copy it as an iso image so it is exact

We do not discuss ways of illegally distributing software here. With that being said, theres already a thread discussing ways to burn a personal backup copy of the navi dvd, and nobody has found a viable way yet, it is not a straight forward copy.

also it would take a few hours to download as the file is more than 8GB's, plus you risk the loss of data, which can screw up the 2 thousand dollar navi drive. The only way to ensure a good copy is to make one from another disk on the same computer locally.

NAVI update

The price asked for the update is scandalous. The users should boycott the update. It does not make sense to pay so much for an update.

Before the ACURA, I had a Garmin GPS and the updates were 150$ almost every year. After numerous complaints from users, Garmin reduced the price of the updates to 75$.

I just purchased an '08 TL Type S which came with the 4.62. Seems nice to me. Don't know what the previous versions were like. It does still have a male and female voice, and it does repeat the voice commands. I don't usually zoom all the way in, but I work in a downtown area with all one way roads and don't recall anything donating them as such at the 1/8th of a mile zoom level.

Anyone working on hacks for 4.62? The trip and A/C one looks really cool. Is it a given that the older version hacks don't work on newer versions? I don't really know much about that kind of stuff.

Has anyone who has purchased an Acura since the release of the newest version had any luck trying to get the updated version for a reduced or no cost? I bought a '07 TL a couple weeks ago, after 4.62 was released, and my car came with 4.56. I think I may try calling Acura Client Services to see if there is anything that can be done. Anyone else try this?

Redmen34,
I can't believe Acura would be so cheap as to not upgrade your system with the latest since you purchased your Tl after the update was released.
Let us know how you make out.
I'm going to ask next week when I go to my dealer, but I purchased about a week prior to release; so I'm not too hopeful

I hope they would, but I'm not expecting anything. I haven't asked the dealer or contacted Acura yet. From what others have said on here it sounds like the dealers want nothing to do with Navigation discs and just say to go to the website. I keep forgetting, but I think I'll call Acura Customer Services and see how far I get. Let us know what your dealer says.

I casually asked my dealer about the Navi Update and the service manager went into his office and handed me a copy.

He indicated that he gets a few every update and happily hands them to whomever asks.

This makes me feel real confident about my dealer..
Went there today to get some work done on a due order, and asked about the 4.62 update.
They said they didn't know anything about it, and that their computer shows 4.56a as the current version. While at the dealership, I used the computer they have for customers to use while waiting for service work to look up the status of the updates on the Alpine site.
The Alpine site said they are on backorder.
So maybe not all dealerships have the new discs yet; or I got fed a line, which I doubt cause I say the results of his search.

Dang, I don't know what happened to the rest of that post.
Anyone else with a new purchase[post September] have any stories about trying to get a new disc from a dealer?

The new update 4.62 is on backorder because of 2 main glitches that were found. If you have the 4.62 update you should contact Alpine for reimbursement. One of the glitches is that the nav goes into the IN-Line factory diagnostic screen by itself after you download 4.62. The other glitch is that the disc will never load & you'll just see the picture of the globe...

and Acura isn't going to provide you 2007 owners w/the newest updated disc. The dealer may provide it to you but that would be up to them. The vehicle comes standard with whichever disc was available @ the time the vehicle was manufactured. It doesn't matter when you purchased the vehicle. You purchased a 2007 model so you got the 2007 update. Why should they give you the 2008 update?

You can try calling 888 549 3798 but there probably is no exact ETA. If it's 4.62 they wouldn't know because they're trying to sort through software issues

The only instance where maybe Acura should provide 2007 owners with the newest updated disc is if one purchased a brand new 2007 after the release of the updated disc. I think this would be a good customer relations move. Yes, I understand that when you buy last year's model that it's your choice and there may be some sacrifices, but for something like a navigation DVD, which probably doesn't cost them much it would be a nice gesture to make sure the owner's have the latest DVD when they purchase their car. I would compare it to Apple computers. They released their new operating system last Friday, but I believe anyone who bought a new computer during the month of October was given a free upgrade to the new operating system when it was released. And that was buying before the updated operating system. With Acura, I'm only thinking if you bought after the updated DVD was released. With that said, I do only think it would be a good customer relations move and not something that Acura should do or that I'm entitled to. Even though I bought the car after the 4.62 updated was released, I still did buy an '07 and that would be one of the sacrifices in doing do. But I saved so much money by getting an '07 over an '08 that it was worth having to pay for the updated DVD if I choose to do so.

Yes, I understand your point. I was just having a hard time relating to the sense that Acura is obligated to provide an updated disc. It's like, you purchased an 07 TL @ the end of the model year most likely because you were getting a good deal. Why should Acura provide you something that other 2007 owners weren't provided? If you want the 2008 updated disc standard then buy a 2008. In addition, it's not as easy to just send out a disc seeing how they're manufactured/distributed by Alpine.

The Acura navigation website says 4.62 will be released mid to late January 2008. This is when I selected for a 2007 TL.

Only because when other 2007 owner's purchased their cars the navi disc they got was the latest at the time they purchased their cars. If you purchased one after the update then you did not receive the latest at the time of purchase. But again, I don't believe Acura is obligated to do anything like that and that is one factor in buying an '07. However, to buy a '08 only to get the updated navi disc would be ridiculous.

To me it's all about customer relations and a higher quality brand providing it. Although not the exact same situation, you could also compare it to an instance where someone buys a nice LCD TV from Best Buy. A week later, the TV's price is dropped by $200 or goes on sale. Best Buy will refund that difference in price difference generally during a 30 day period. The people that bought the TV 4 months ago are out of luck, just like someone who bought an '07 before the updated disc was released. Again, not saying Acura is obligated, but you could use that logic.

Also, if Acura did choose to make sure owners had the most recent disc update at the time of purchase, I do not see why it would not be too difficult to set up a system where at the time of purchase, the buyer would receive some sort of code to put in on the website where updated discs are purchased that would cover the cost minus shipping.

Yeah, I see your point. Their point is you get the most up to date software @ the time of manufacture & not @ the time of purchase. For the same reason of customer service they're not going to provide new disc to people who just bought a late model car. Then 2007 owners who didn't get the new update will call Acura crying.

They are kind of in a lose-lose situation because no matter what policy they do some people are going to be upset. Whether it's 2007 owners who didn't get the new update because they bought their cars before the update was released or 2007 owners like me who bought their car after the new release. I think their current policy of getting whatever disc was current at the time of manufacture is probably the safest on their part, and let's face it, a way for them to get more people to buy the updates. Hopefully, most people in my situation will take the attitude that I have and say even though a newer version was available at the time, it's part of buying 2007. One thing that may help clear some confusion or at maybe get people less upset is making it clear that they mean the latest version at the time the car was manufactured. All the manual and the features DVD video that came with the car says is that your car came with the latest navi disc. It does not specify the latest at the time of manufacture.
