Siemens S66
Just joined the forum and thought I'd give my phone update.
I am using a Siemens S66 (Cingular) in Tennessee. The phone paired up with no problems. It shows battery and signal strength and, so far, has performed flawlessly.

Asked Nokia...
I asked (well tried to) Nokia why they've chosen to not pass battery and signal strength info over the Bluetooth link.
What I got back was a very circular answer that essential said their phones aren't designed to do that (well DUH, I already KNEW that - I was asking WHY?).
I tried restating the question more directly and I'll see if I get a real answer back this time.
I pointed out to them that 1.) Competitors phones share the info, ie a competitive consideration. 2.) It would be a safety factor to provide this info over the Bluetooth so I could glance at the dash rather than having to look at the phone to see the status.
Anyway, the bottom line is no Nokias share signal or battery on the Handsfree Link by design - for now anyway.

V 710 with SW 1.4
I'm new to the forum and have a quick question. I've tried to read all I can about the subject of phones and compatibilty with HFL. (so bear with me please if this has been covered somewhere else)
I'm a Verizon customer and just picked up a new V710 last Saturday. It paired flawlessly and works pretty well. I have the following functionality:
1) signal strength
2) battery strength
3) caller ID
4) can receive calls via the speak buttton on the wheel
5) voice dial commands work as do outgoing calls from the TL's phonebook.
My only problem is that if I dial out using the buttons on the phone- the call stays with the phone. I can "transfer" the call to HFL but this is a pain.
Is there a simple fix for this or should I happy with the functionality I have???
Thanks!

Calling "transfer" to transfer calls between HFL and the mobile phone seems like the only way. Do I miss the point of this question?
Your phone and its functionalities seem good to me.

Motorola V710 with Software 1.4
Thanks for the reply.
I think you understood my question. I just wanted to know if the opeartion I described was typical or if I was doing something wrong.
I just returned an Audiovox XV 6600 that connected to HFL when I dialed out. Actually it had one minor bug. My first phone call out after entering the vehicle stayed with the handset. Every other call after that worked fine. Of course with that phone I didn't have caller ID, signal strength, battery strength ....
It seems like every phone out there has some sort of quirk with functions that don't work as they are supposed to.
I'm with Verizon which doesn't help matters. I'm considering switching carriers- possibly going with Cingular/ ATT. Is there a good phone out there that has full functionality with HFL? I'd love to find a PDA phone with Windows operating system that works flawlessy. (and is an excellent phone to boot) Any suggestions or just go with one listed on Acura's web site?
Thanks!

IMO, if your phone could
show singal strength
dispaly battery meter
have call ID
could transfer back and forth btwn HFL and the phone
could receive the call and dial out
Whatever carriers it has, I'd say it's working completely with HFL and the good phone. Except you totally dislike V710, it would be the different issue. Check the 1st page of this thread, there are some PDA phones there.

Nokia Phones
I am looking at a few Nokia Phones to Upgrade to from an older Nokia. So far I'm coming down to the 6651, and the 6230. Have any of you have recommendations on these 2 phones, good or bad,or any other Nokia phones, it would be very helpful to hear from you. BTY I'm in the NYC/Long Island Area and use Cingular. Would I be able to hook up these pnones to my car's Blue Tooth myself or would I need to go back to my Dealer. Thanks!!!

I personally used the 6230b for a few months. It is by far the best phone you can get. The reception is top notch, infact, I have yet to find a phone to beat it. It will hold reception in weak areas where virtually every other phone drops signal. It works well with the bluetooth system in our car; however, like all other Nokia's, the HFL will not display the signal strength or battery life (not a big deal if you ask me)
As far as pairing the phones with your car. If the phone is supported by the handsfreelink system in our car, then you can pair it in your driveway. You do not need to go to the dealer. Turn on your car, push the handsfreelink talk button, say "phone setup" then it will ask you what you want to do, push the button again and say, "pair" then follow the steps. It is very simple. or you can go to www.handsfreelink.com for exact instructions - for the 6230 go to http://www.handsfreelink.com/dev/pai...o=i&phoneid=22

Thank you! I just went to the Cingular store near my house and played with the 6230. I liked the phone, but when I called home there was an echo that I heard on my end. My wife said that I was coming in perfectly. When I lowered the volume a little, everything sounded fine. I think that I will try that model. Probably pick it up Monday. Thanks again!!

Does anyone know if you can Pair Up 2 differnet BT Phones in the same car? I will be buying the Nokia 6230 today. I will then be getting a Blackberry in about 1 month. Will both phones work within the same car? Or will I have to get a BT Earpiece for my Blackberry? The TL is my wife's car and the Nokia will also be hers, (and of course she comes first in the pecking order..., as every married man knows!). Thanks.

Yes, you can pair multiple phones - 6 I believe; however, you can only use one at a time. For example, if you have both the 6230 and the blackberry in the car, only one of them will work with the car. Whichever phone is paired to the car first, will be the primary phone.

T-Mobile finally got the Motorola V330's in stock.

Brand new Sony Ericsson K750i.
Full compatiblity, just like my t610. Additionally, the sound is much clearer/crisper, and the "transfer" feature works very well. The k750i also has autodetect profiles so it changes over to no ring, no vibrate when i bring it in the car with bluetooth on.

Verizon/Motorola V710 with new software: 8700_01.40.OR
I use it with my TL, MDX and when I'm not in the car I have a Bluetooth wireless earpiece: 820- Star Trek looking device.
I went to my local Verizon store- Bridgewater, NJ on Route 202- to get a software upgrade and they gave me a new telephone because they couldn't perform the upgrade. My phone was purchased in October, 2004.
The new software allows for battery life and volume signal to appear on the dashboard.

For those who are with Verizon and looking to get into a new handset soon, or want to dish out the extra money any buy one outright the motorola 815 is coming out very soon. I am currently using it and have tested it with many different bluetooth factory carkits to test compatibilty. Very solid unit, and bluetooth is much more solid than in the 710. Just an FYI.

Moto A630 Pairing, and Audio Quality
Has anyone tried a Motorola A630 Bluetooth with a 2005 Acura RL.
T Mobile has had Acura approval on (only their) the A630, but then not all the phones works as well as others (echo, audio quality, etc). I see the Moto V710 (Verizon) and Moto V3 Razor (Cingular) work well, but I'm trying to stick with T Mobile - er... unless their only approved phone the A630) is a dog when connected to HandsFreeLink.

I just got my p910a and i have an acura tl 04 with the car phone feature. I am so upset that i have to do all of those annoying setups just to work the phone with my car. I had a t616 and it worked flawlessly. I would figure that a phone that is worth so much more wouldn't be as good as the t616 bluetooth feature. I've been reading forums around everywhere but it's been quiet for a while. Is there an update on the bluetooth???

Acura's web site now lists the compatible phones with which ones display the id, signal and battery indicators along with other things now. Anyone find that what Acura has reported doesn't match up with their phone?

i-mate JAM
I'll be getting my i-mate JAM tomorrow, it's a Pocket PC phone. It supposedly works well the the TL. Will confirm tomorrow after giving it a shot. If it works good, I'll be selling off my P910 sometime next week.

i-mate JAM works
Got the phone. The i-mate JAM works with TL except that it doesn't display battery life and signal strength. Here's a thread with more details and some pictures (56k users, the pics are fairly large).

Blackberry 7100t with T-mobile.
Signal Strength and Battery meter are great.
Around Maryland (Bethesda, Kensington, Aspen Hill, Silver Spring, Olney, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Clarksville, Columbia) signal is about as good as with Verizon. On my commute home (Bethesda to Olney via Conn. to Ga. Aves), I only hit one dead spot: right at Conn + Beltway.
The only weird thing (is this normal?), after shutting off the car, the phone still thinks it's paired until I walk about 15 feet away. My wife called me one day as I was getting my laptop bag out of my back seat and I had to, after answering the call, tell the phone to switch to the phone from bluetooth. But, hey, that's only happened once in the last 45 days. The convenience of bluetooth is amazing. "Dial Home" ... "OK" ... "Hi, Honey, I'm on my way home."

The Motorola V600 works (no battery) with firmware 9.3 from T-Mobile. After many hours on the phone with T-Mobile and Motorola I found out that Motorola has a different firmware version for every provider. 9.3 is the latest for T-Mobile. It doesn't sound very good to the person on the other end of the line and there is a slight delay when you answer the phone and they can hear you talk so I always have to say hello three or four times. The callers number doesn't always appear in the HID either.

After 15 months, I've finally joined the ranks of the Handsfree Linkers here.
Add the Audiovox XV6600 PDA phone from Verizon (if not here already). No Signal strength or battery level on the MID, but making and receiving calls are no problem. Did have to download the latest ROM update from Audiovox's site to make it work though.
Handsfree Link is da bomb !!!

Where I lay my phone at night is on the other side of the garage wall where the TL is parked and sometimes I wake up to a dead phone that was fully charged the night before. Maybe there are "hooking up" in the middle of the night.
