3G TL sound system upgrade

I have been looking into upgrading my sound system for 05 TL I want to keep factory HU so I can keep the factory sub and center dash speaker so I asking what needs to be done to achieve that? I will be adding a GROM audio Bluetooth streaming kit but I would also like to add and aftermarket amp and sub

Devon, You are a bit correct. This is not a simple straight forward upgrade, but you can achieve excellence if you pay attention to the details. Please refer to my build link. read thru that and you will have a very thorough understanding of the issues that you need to pay attention too. My goal was to maintain the OEM HU and maintaining the center channel for voice prompts and the rear deck speakers for some rear fill if needed.

It is long and a lot of information, but this as you know is not a simple upgrade

There is a lot more you must consider. Must people now usually have an aftermarket radio due to ability to do more and add more to the system easily. If you go that route there are sites that can allow for plug and play options for headunit, aftermarket amps, & subs especially with you being new to the DIY car audio.

The easy way out is to go with a new HU in terms of obtaining current connectivity options. You will then be suffering with trying to make the center stack look decent, which is next to impossible without serious skills. You will loose a lot of OEM functionality and have reduced sonic performance. All the functionality that you are after with a new HU can be obtained using a device like iSimple, etc with the OEM HU. You cannot just throw any aftermarket products at the TL. They all need to be able to work with the complexity and some unusual requirements posed by the OEM system. That is where reading thru a successful build will educate you about what you need to take into consideration. For instance, not all amps play nicely with the OEM HU low level outputs.
