2007 non-navi head unit into 2006 non-navi?

Maybe its just me but I have never completely fallen for the radio/climate control display in my 06 non-navi. It just doesn't seem to go with the upscale feel of the rest of the car. I think one reviewer hit it on the head when he said it looks like the text was taken from a cheap clock radio. To each his own...but I love the rest of the car and wouldn't trade it for anything else in the same class.

That being said I recently saw pictures of the 07 non-navi head unit and find it much more to my liking, especially that Acura has finally graced us non-navi folks with a compass! That being said I was wondering if anyone has looked into the cost and or mods necessary to fit the 2007 head unit into the 2006? I am assuming there is no structural mod necessary and possibly only minimal wiring changes. As with all things its probably 2x as much as it would be to get a navi system installed but I had to ask.

I haven't called or stopped by the dealer to ask but that will be my next step.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I agree with you- the non-navi console is so much more attractive in the 07s (the pre-07 just looks like an afterthought!), but I would venture a guess that this would be more trouble than it's worth- esp. with the compass sensor itself probably being somewhere other than right in the dash piece that you'd be replacing.

I would hope that I was wrong, but I would assume that it would be prohibitive in terms of cost and effort.

Again, I hope I'm wrong!

How about putting the 06 NON Navi Display in my 04. is That doable. I don't like the grey. It's hard to read when the sun shines on it. I'd rather have the blue also for the clock. Let me know about this if any of you know. Thanks

Wow you guys are right, it does look a lot nicer. All we need is the schematic to see if the harnesses are the same. If they are, chances are it works. Also the compass is a very simple device and is probally built right into the unit.

I sent an email to Tim at hondaacura world asking about fit, hookup, price, and availability. When I hear back from Tim I will post the findings.

I agree its probably cost prohibitive but I would imagine Acura would keep any other changes (wiring harness, etc) to a minimum to control costs so as long as the head unit cost is reasonable and the wiring matches up the hard part is taken care of.

Does anyone have any answers to this? I have an 06 and I would like to install an 07 radio for some of its upgraded features. Would it be easy to do or are the wires different. Also, do all 07 radios have the red LEDs or is it just in the TL-S?

It might be plug and play ish.. I know the 07s+ use a new nav system so there are different connections; it's possible the non-navi in the 07 uses the same connections as the 06 non-navi

But as stated above; the 07 non-nav setup fits the car much better. It looked pretty cheap before; I was asked "why do you need the nav it's a waste"; then got a call "get the nav that car doesn't look right without it" hehe

Only the TL-S have the red background lighting... the rest is like every other 3rd gen TL...

Hmmm, because I was also thinking I might undertake the big task of converting from non-navi to navi and try to install an 07 nav in my 06 but if the connections are that different it might be way too much to handle.

It's gray? I didn't realize the color changed for 06. Can you post a pic of yours? I'm curious to see what it looks like. Are the 05's gray as well?

I think some wires run to the HU on the non-navi TL for the Compass Function. When I was messing with the Type-S HU, the instructions on the wiring diagram shows some wires that connected to the HU. I have posted those information on one of the thread I've started. Look into it first. The display portion of the 07+ non-navi HU def. look better than the 04-06 non-navi TL

I was just looking at the Acura site and the non-navi info section is definitely more refined.

Unfortunately, none of the online oem part web sites are showing 08 parts.

I also looked at the 07 part and it's identical to my 06 and it's $680.00!!

Nope...I still haven't seen anything definitive floating around. Other than the cost estimate there is nothing stopping me from doing this once I can confirm its possible

any updates on this? I bought an 07 non navi HU and climate control screen the other day for cheap with the wire harnesses. I would love to swap out my 05 unit with an 07. Anybody ever try? Anybody with a wiring diagram they would like to share for me to attempt? =)

Thanks in advance!

I would love to do this too (I have an 06). You can find the wiring diagram in the FAQ/Manuals section on here for the 04-06, but I haven't found the 07-08 diagram yet. You might be able to find it on http://www.helminc.com.
