2006 TL "Please check disc"

Hey guys,

I recently just bought an TL but it didn't come with the navigation disc. The screen just says "Please check disc"

Am I able to listen to music via radio / cd / tape player without the navigation dvd? The cd rom doesnt seem to let me insert my disc and nothing happens when changing to AM/FM.

I just ordered the orange disc online hopefully by the time it comes it works. It wont arrive or another week or two.. I really want to listen to music though.. Driving without music is just weird.

I'm guessing I absolutely need the navigation disc to even get anything to work?

Please help me! Anything helps.

The head unit should still function normally. You didn't bother to check if the CD player actually worked before you bought it? Did you hit the "eject" button to be sure it's not already full of CDs?

I checked the car but I thought without the navigation disc the head doesn't function. I hit eject but nothing happens since the screen says please check disc. I got the car off an auction for a really good price. Other than that everything else seems to be ok after inspection.

The HU should still fully function. I got the same message on my Navi screen when I got to Hawaii. I figured that since the 06 didnt have coverage, that was the cause. Guess I will see when I get back to Cali in a few months. May need to get the Nav DVD player(in trunk) repaired.

I had the same issue recently. They replaced the whole navigation DVD reader which fixed it. Btw, the nav unit DVD reader is completely different than the main CD/DVD reader which is up front. I believe the nav unit is in the trunk somewhere.
Yes it also controls the touchscreen display so it's hard to use the radio with it not working. Try using all the manual controls. Push the power button and make sure it's on, then start cycling through your presets. Everything should still work, it's just a pain since you can't see what channel you're on. Oh, and if all else fails, the tape player should still work if you shove in a tape. Don't laugh, but I bought one on amazon just to use while my DVD nav reader was being fixed.

Hopefully your issue can be fixed by the new DVD alone, and it's not the whole nav unit. After you get this sorted out, you'll love the car!

edit: just saw this relevant thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-a...errors-873489/

You can buy navigation DVDs on eBay or here. There is a DVD drive in the trunk. With a proper DVD in the trunk drive, you will get your screen working again. Old tech by today's standards. I recently bought a replacement used complete DVD unit for my trunk because the one I had in my 2006 TL no longer powered up (so I could not get the DVD out of it either)
