Red face 2006 TL ( Navigation Conversion )

Hello Folks,

I have a 2006 Acura TL (Without Navi..my bad...I wish I would have got one with the Nav). Is there any recommendation on where is the best place around MD metro (Open to travel to NJ also) to get the conversion done (I called the delear and they said it is not possible, but I did see some pictures on conversion on this fourm) how much would it cost me. Also, wondering, making a conversion somewhere else other than delear would it void the Acura warrenty...Guru's Please advise..this is been really eating my brain...

This threads belong in the Audio/Video section,

But I wouldn't recommend doing the conversation, you are better off purchasing something like a Pioneer Avic-Z2, with navigation, hard drive, dvd, mp3...u name it, it does it all...it will be cheaper and better than stock.

I am certain you could find someone who will install this for you. But I really think you need to go to the minor effort of searching around this site for non-navi to navi conversion. There are a million threads on this. Then you need to figure out if you can get an 07+ system or one of the older 04-06 systems.

You should also consider alternative systems that look similar (I would try to keep the same lines on the dash) to the actual navi but have more functions. You might want to get a carputer...

Obviously you tried to save money on your car by not getting navi so in this upgrade you should try to find something on ebay or via the sales section in the off-topic area of acurazine.

Once you figure out what you want to install and you get it in your hands, find an installer to take care of the rest or make it a DIY. If you are located near to other AZiners, some of these guys will help you out. Buy 'em a beer or offer them some cash--whatever--but people will help you out as this is a pretty cool community of people!

---

Speaking of carputers, I'm really surprised that Macintosh hasn't tried to take its iPhone technnology and put it into running an automobile. A larger touchscreen of that quality and interface would be very cool + the other capabilities, such as wifi, to add functions that I haven't even though of yet...

Pioneer Avic-Z2 is available with Circuitcity but they claim they cannot install it for TL's.

What??? I had in my 00TL....

I bought on a promotion on some website, went to a local shop, and I've installed it without a problem....

I think they are giving you this problem because they cannot figure out how to use stock amp with the Avic.....

Ok, I have some real good advice for you:

This guy Martin has done this conversion for many people on Acurazine and numerous others I'm sure. You can contact him at acurahondatech@comcast.net. He will respond quickly.

The conversion including all parts and labor is $2000. I'm planning on doing this conversion once I can save up the money.

Unless you have the time and patience (more of both is required than you can imagine), do yourself the biggest favor of all; sell the car and find one with Navi. Think your brain's been eaten yet? Try getting involved with this conversion. Just the pics I've seen here of the extent to which the interior of the car gets taken apart make me cringe.

Also, having it done may void the car's warranty for anything that goes wrong related to the install, directly or indirectly.

Your only other alternative is to buy a portable after market GPS. That you can go to Circuit Shitty for, not to let them tear your car apart.

If I had a non-navi TL, I would do a carputer. Just drop the the info screens to the 2 storage bins for the touch screen. And the carputer would be a easier install, more functional and cheaper

Just installed Pioneer Avic Z3 + rear camera + Blue Tooth + Ipod + USB + Steering wheel interface. So far very happy with it.

There's a place in Rockville, MD called Driven Dynamics that has posted here in the past. They do carputer installs.

I just finished the conversion and the cool factor is there, but I don't really like the interface. So I am going to also going to do a carputer on top of it. I don't regret doing it as I understand how it all works and it was a fun project.

I don't know about anyone else but I wouldn't let any of the big box stores install a light bulb in any of my cars. Even more so now that I know how fragile the plastic is.

Trade in...huh....Dealer want to take the car for bottom prices and wanting more money for the newer.....being that conversion would be a quick bail out...whoever installs know what the heck he is doing then it should be good...

I'm curious as to what the original poster has done in the month since he started his quest. I have a hunch but I'd like to know for sure....
