2006 Navigation Failed
Hi guys, I know a few of you have experienced this problem, but my navigation is beginning to fail or actually it has failed. It will not boot past the welcome screen and continually reboots. By searching the threads I know some have had Alpine repair the unit for just under 500 which seems to be the cheapest option.
I've seen some upgrade their 04-06 nav to the 07-08 but they replaced the entire system. My question is with the 06 DVD discontinuing after this year, can I simply upgrade the 04-06 Nav unit to the 07-08 without replacing the screen, HFL, etc. I don't want the nav traffic or the review camera just want a new unit that will replace my 2006 unit while maintaining Bluetooth and climate features.
If this is not feasible can anyone recommend an aftermarket unit that can be a direct replacement.
Thanks

upgrading to the 2007-2008 system will cost quite a bit and require replacement of the screen, radio and extensive modification of some harnesses.
The Alpine Repair should be a MAX of $250 including shipping. I believe it's $185 dollar flat fee for all repairs plus the return shipping charge. Someone said that if you send in your old disk in your drive that they will send you the newest one. I personally don't know if it's true!

Just a suggestion (may or may not help)- mine acted up a few years ago (with frequent rebooting)- I ran one of the CDs with the little brushes on it through the DVD reader- I must have had some dust on the optical pickup because it's been fine since then- can't hurt to try.

For the lens cleaning procedures (there are a couple), see https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/diy-how-fix-navi-disk-read-errors-873489/.
Alpine in Torrance just increased the repair price to just over $450.
It was @$180 originally, then increased to $370 two or three years ago.

Try cleaning the DVD reading lens first, before having someone replace parts.

They did NOT SEND A NEWER DVD disc as others have mentioned. I would try cleaning lens but if it doesnt work then get the repair done if you really want the navigation OP
