2005 TL Speaker Replacement Help
Picking up a 05 TL and when I test drove it, the stereo just sounded horrid. What direction should I go in regards to replacement speakers in this car? How many speakers are there in total? 6 or more? Just looking for some insight and direction from owners.

Read the various build threads. Oem speakers are inexpensive to replace and there are 7. Not much success with swaping in aftermarket drivers and leaving amp untouched

Can you direct me to where I should begin to look, im still new around here and I'm not sure where to look.

There's a sticky right on the Audio, Bluetooth, Electronics and Navigation forum page that will answer any speaker questions you have.
Here, I made it even easier for you:

Thanks, I've been checking that out. I think I might need to talk to someone who can more so hands on guide me along this. I'm not trying to do anything elaborate. Just replace all the door speakers with better speakers to get a better sound. If I could replace the 8inch sub in that location and get better sound, then that would be fine also.
Who might you guys recommend that I can PM about this and see what information I can get.

If you replace the stock sub with a better sub but leave it in the same location you are going to have rattling problems. The rear deck rattling will negate any joy you get from having better bass. Unless, of course, you spend a lot of money to dynamat anything and everything back there, but even then there's no guarantee that the rattling will be gone.
In the spirit of what pohljm said, you won't see too much of a difference with swapping out the stock speakers and leaving the stock amp hooked up to drive them. There may be some difference. The hard part is finding 2ohm speakers to replace your stocks with, because the sub, rear deck, tweeters and door speakers are 2ohm, meaning if you got 4ohm replacements there would be a difference in resistance and ultimately volume.
You mention that you aren't trying to do anything elaborate, only to replace the stock speakers with better ones to get a better sound. It's not that simple in the TL to "just" replace your speakers with better ones and have better sound, unless you do it a certain way. The fact is, the stock speakers/amp/sub/headunit were chosen to go together from the factory.
My advice is to change out your amp and keep the stock speakers. The stock speakers can handle more power than what they currently get, and from what I've read on these forums can sound better with a good amp. That may save you some money and also give you the result you want.

Interesting... Let me further elaborate. I want to keep the layout of what Acura put together in place, just improve it. In my readings, I have seen that the stock amp is by no means sufficient for my tastes. I would ideally like to replace that with an aftermarket amp, in the same hidden location, to that its clean and discreet....
Might anyone know of what type of amp that I should look for, to power everything in the car in the same fashion that the standard platform was created. Would a 4 channel be sufficient?

5 channel would be more flexible. Look for my build thread.

I like those corner custom boxes, but I was seeing 300+ for them, and thats a bit more then I wanted to spend. I'm not super picky on replacing my front speakers to some epic brand of speaker, but something better than stock paper speakers.
