2005 TL Noise in ??? XM
2005 TL Noise in ??? XM
Anyone here notice a noise in the XM...its hard to describe and only happens every so often, sounds like a digital squelch or glitch....similar to what I've experienced before when I used to have DirecTV and it was stormy out. Except its been Sunny ever since I got the car 3 days ago.
It sounds like its coming from the center channel speaker, or maybe even the fronts. I don't know if the center channel speaker is active when you aren't listening to 5.1 Surround.
I haven't so far experienced this in FM radio or CD play.
Input anyone?

The center channel is a multiplexed signal of the front left and front right signals (actually, L and R are the only independent signals) for a stereo source. You will occasionally hear "static" on XM depending on your surroundings, and I suppose your characterization is pretty good. Usually it just drops out, sometimes it sounds like FM static, but every once in a while you'll hear kind of a phaser effect. Sort of like internet radio when you have a marginal connection or high latency. If it only happens every once in a while, and it looks like you might be in a bad area for signal (high trees/mountains/buildings, near underpasses, etc.) I wouldn't worry about it.
XM is definitely lower quality than CD and DVD-A but I haven't noticed any static or any kind of noise while listening to it. It is possible that your location is hampering XM reception and that an incomplete digital stream just comes out as some static. Where are you located? Ask around and find out if other XM users (preferably TL) are experiencing similar problems.
