2005 Acura TL with bad nav....Replace?

I have a 2005 TL and my nav went out probably 3 monthes ago. i took it to acura and they said it would cost $600 to ship to alpine and fix it. Would i be smmart just to buy a after market headunit that fits where the screen is ? also can you remove the screen with out the buttons around it?

I'd look into retrofitting a tablet. There's a few very detailed write ups here. The stock nav works fine but it's outdated and not worth replacing a broken one IMO.

Did you try removing the DVD, cleaning it, cleaning the reader lens and then reinstalling to see if that resolves the issues first?
If not, try that. See https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/diy-how-fix-navi-disk-read-errors-873489/ .

There are also references in that thread to replacing the DVD drive with a new one from the Ali Express website for less than $150-- that's what Alpine would do, except it charges a flat rate of between $358 and $470 now for repair.

G/L, and welcome to AZ.
