Question 2004 NAVI Upgrade Question?

This has probable been discussed before, but I couldnt find it on the search.
Can I upgrade to a newer better version on NAVI disc from my 04 TL. I saw my friends 07 TSX and that NAVI was so much better, so im wondering if I could just copy a NAVI disc from another 05-07 TL and just use it without having problems?

There are a couple of answers to this one. Yes - you can upgrade your Navi. You have to make sure you purchase the orange disk though, and that will only update your POI's mainly.

The newer cars (I think 07+?) have a white navigation disk. This disk is not compatible with our systems.

So to answer your question - yes, we can upgrade. But it's not the upgrade that you're thinking.

so basically I can "COPY" another TL that ranges from 2005-2006 and use that disk.
and this upgrade would only update the streets and etc.

If you mean "COPY" as in Backup, then no.. people havent been able to copy the orange disks... Now while much more expensive you can get a 07-08 drive and then you would have the updated GUI, and disks like your friends TSX.. thats what i have...

how much more did the 07-08 Drive cost you?
I could probably get the part at cost price from my dealer

Well, not exactly. There are updates to the maps—some new areas that were not previously covered and of course updates where new roads are built or roads are reconfigured due to road works projects. (The Springfield Interchange in Virginia is a good example of the latter; inclusion of Quebec City and the Saguenay area is an example of the former.) But in theory the updates to the POIs would be the bulk of the updating.

I had not updated my 2004 Navi disc because I didn't see the point of doing so during the Springfield Interchange construction, but then last fall when they offered the latest update at a discount I went ahead and got it. The annoyance that comes from typing in the names of certain businesses and getting directed to a place on the other side of the continent has not gone away, if that's what you're wondering. The interface is exactly the same as it was, which is fine with me. You cannot get the XM NavTraffic or whatever it's called just by updating your DVD if your car did not already have that feature available.
