10w3 or 10w7??

im looking to add a more powerful sub that provides harder, deeper bass then the stock sub..im not going to remove the stock sub but instead just turn it off from the radio controls. I was looking at the 10w3 or 10w7...Now, I want to keep my trunk space thats why im going for a 10inch, i dont want the entire block to hear me coming but I do want a nice bump in my trunk. I know the 10w7 is loud as hell but i don't know if that sub will over power our stock speakers and just give me tons of bass. Anyone have a similiar setup or can provide any insite or opinions? thanks.

^^^^^ not sure how you plan on getting any Bass signal to your new sub if you have the head unit sub control shut off? you cant really shut it off anyway only lower it.. best bet would be to disconnect the stock sub and then run the signal from there to your amp either high level or thru a LOC and then low level signal to your new amp and sub

Also I have been driving around the 07 TL, and I must say its a nice system but the 8inch subwoofer sucks ass. The honda pilot woofer sounds better...

you're be just fine with one 10w7 seal or vented without drowning out your highs inside your car... you'll be fine... just set it up correctly with the crossover and gains on the amplifier... PLUS the sound is gonna sound horrible with a LOC... been there done that... but it will cure (temporary) your bass'n needs... best bet is to hook up a 3sixty eventially...

I have a 10W3v3 in my trunk, rear facing, being pushed by the 250w sub channel of a JL 500/5 and it sounds awesome, I actually run it at -3 most of the time.

You should also think about what you want to drive the sub with, as that will be just as important. If you go with the 10w7 then I think you will need to drive 400-600 watts for the best sound. I chose a more subtle 250 watts (you can push more or less, but 150-600 keeps your warranty intact) which will still shake the car. Properly set up, both will sound fantastic.

pohljm - if u turn the "subwoofer" control all the way down it goes past minus and then to "shut off"...i was hoping to just "shut off" the stock sub and use the aftermarket sub

rodneyc77 - the guy at the audio shop told me that the w7 would be fine but the reviews i've read make this sub sound like a monster so I dont wanna have nothing BUT bass n rattle..by the way whats a LOC?

meyersnole - i was thinking a jl 500/1 amp with the 10w7 and i forgot the model # but the same amp that jl reccomends for the 10w3

I really dont think you need a 10w7, it will honestly drown out the factory speakers. If u want a W7 go with a 8w7 ported.

Where do you get the signal for the sub then? You are going to have to disconnect the factory sub, but you do not have to remove it.

With a 500/1 either sub is going to overpower your stock speaks. You should think about dialing that back to a 300/1 and 10w3v3, you will still have to dial it back some until you cave and upgrade everything else... and this will still sound great. A LOC takes a High level signal and converts it pre-amp level. David Navone LOC is the favorite of the board... Google it.

As mentioned, the sweet spot for the 10W3v3 is 300watts per JL, check their website. I run 250 and it sounds great. I am running the JL 500/5 and the 300/2 with Focal and the JL sub and I get super clean sound hitting about 118db. In my opinion, more than enough bump. If you want to jar the car next to you go for the 500/1 and the 10w7 -- its a killer sub, and the slash series amps are awesome.

Well I just finished my sub project, when I get home after the holidays i will post a new thread on it including pics. Basically though I cut some of the rear deck away and fiberglassed a box into it and mounted a 10W3v3 in there. So now it is carpeted and all that is left after put it all together is the box protrudes from the bottom of the rear deck a little bit but not much at all. You have to bend down to see it ad i can still fit luggage and whatever else I want to underneath it. I love it. My friend has an 06 accord with 2 12" infinity kappa's and my 10" JL hits harder. I tink mostly cause I built a pretty stout glass box and cause I have it firing through the stock sub hole into the cabin.

meyersnole - the 10w3v3 paired with the 300/1 amp is what the sales rep also recommended I get. Do you think this will be too much bass even though im going down from the 10w7? Hows your w3 sound? does it overpower the stock speakers? Im leaning more towards the w3 since the w7 seems like it will be waayyyyyy too much bass with the stock internals.

10w3v3 with the 300/1 would be a very good foundation for when you upgrade the rest of the system If you stick with the stock system, you will still probably need to turn the bass down. I keep my bass at -3 most of the time and I am pushing 800 watts (total system). IMHO the TL's stereo is woefully underpowered. But add a few amps and some better speakers and it sings.

If you are pretty happy with the sound & volume and are just looking for some better bass fill, why not look at something like the Infinity Basslink. You won't have to sacrifice your trunk. I read in the forum where someone did this and was very pleased.

Another consideration, if you go with the 300/1 & the 10w3 or the 500/1 and 10w7 make sure you Dynamat the trunk.

Here is my setup:

NE-774V (4Channel LOC) ---| Soon to be replaced with 3SIXTY.1
NE-7V (2Channel LOC) ---|

Front channels JL 300/2
Rear channels to 2 channels (100x2) of a JL 500/5
Center channel input bridged 3rd&4th channel (25x2) of the JL 500/5
Sub to Sub channel (250x1) of 500/5

The JL 300/2 powers two 6.5 Focal components for front channels.
The JL 500/5 sends rear channel info to two Focal 6.5 coaxials.
The JL 500/5 sends center channel Focal 4" coaxial in dash.
The JL 500/5 powers a JL Audio 10W3v3 in the trunk.

Cool, I guess i'll go with the 10w3 for now just in case I upgrade the internal stocks later on down the line. I'll take ur advice and just decrease the bass until it sounds in tune with the stocks. thanks.

Have you thought about a 10w6v2? I was running one of these in my Trans AM with a 500/1 and it BANGED if I wanted it too, alot of people couldnt believe I was only running one 10", it sounded great at all levels and I ran it with stock speakers, they are only about 260 cash from your local stereo shop. I think its a great choice because it has room for growth for whenever you want to upgrade your speakers but can be finely tuned to sound great with the stock ones

another plus is that it doesnt need that much air space at all, I had mine in a very small custom enclosure made to fit in the corner panel of the trans am/camaro, sealed box and that thing never missed a note, sealed is the best for sound quality in my opinion
