'07 Type S 6MT, and Navigation problems in Germany

I have searched and found some great information, but not exactly what I am looking for now. So sorry if this has been posted before, I just did not see it.

I live in Germany and have a 07 Type S 6MT, and Navigation problems. From what I have gathered from these threads, English Honda dealers, Acura Customer Care and Alpine USA, the European Navigation disc will not work with the TL OEM Nav Unit. The OEM unit is dead to me!

What about an After Market Alpine Navigation Unit like the NVE-N872A. Is it possible to run this Navigation Unit or the European Counterpart without losing some of the cool Acura Features? Should I run it piggy bag on a DOM unit or the use the Alpine VPA-B211Alink , completely bypassing the OEM unit all together? I have to get this fixed soon, or else I may have to consider an Audi S5 or BMW 530 to keep my wife happy.

What I am looking for is whether this type of mod is possible? Any pitfalls of other Navi installs or any other solutions.

If some one feels like it is, I will order the unit right now, and post the install and pictures as soon as I complete the project.

One memer has a NHB TLS that he drives on the autobahn and he has nav. I guess that he is using the nav disk for the hondas there. I would go to a honda dealer and ask if you could try out the disks before buying it to see if it works.

I think you are talking about TLFourplay, I think he has the only other Gen 3 Type S in Germany ('cept his is pretty much awesome). He installed a Honda European Disc, but it was a 2006, so he wasn’t able to get it to work. The problem is these discs cost a few hundred Euro, factor in the weak dollar, and it may not even work. Plus, the Honda Dealer here is not really cool, does poor work and is unwilling to even order the Euro disc for me (He says he “can’t” get it).

I ordered a European Navi Disc from Cheswick Honda in London (the exchange rate was even worse, British pounds) and they sent me the same disc that Tony had. So right now I just want to get this Navigation issue settled, and not deal with Honda Dealers.

Quick Note: In Europe, Dealerships are nothing like in the States, when you buy a car its like any other purchase, just a car. They do not try to wow customers with great service and really don’t care if you come back or not. So if you think that Honda Dealers in the States are lousy compared to Acura Dealers, and then imagine what European Honda Dealers are like.

Hey whats up brother. Yeah so like you mentioned I went to the Honda dealer down the road where they gave me a 06 nav disc but when I powered on the system it said that the version of the disc was lower than the system. Didnt you say something about being able to manually load it somehow?? Hey so hopefully you can figure this riddle out before I get back from iraq next november so that I can use my navi in germany .... LOL!! Yeah but good luck with that bro, thats as far as I got. The weird thing though dude is that the disc is made by the exact same company, it has the same writing and stuff, it just has a map of europe and says europe on it. So I just would really find it hard to believe that that disc wouldnt work as long as it is a newer version. Maybe out of the European "Honda Legend" aka to us in north america as the Acura RL.

How's the Sandbox?

So yeah, there is a way to reset the version number by going into the diagnostic mode and doing a foced download. To get to diagnostic mode, you either have to have a SCS connector (Looks like a loop back device) or After turning the car to On(II) press and hold for 5 seconds Menu, Map/Guide and Cancel.
The screen should go to select diagniosis Items Menu and hit version, you can do a forced download from there.

I am not sure if this will work though, and I am pretty sure this will void the warranty, if you don't plan on heading back to the States any time soon, I guess it doesn't matter, but if you are...

Good luck and be safe

Tony,
The otherthing I was going to try was to hack the disc, taking a Honda Europe Discs map information and putting it on the US format disc, then burning it DD. I'll let you know what the ultilmate solution was before you get back, you just left so I am sure I will have the answer by then.

I was just there a few weeks ago talking to a 3g Owner on Einsiedlerhof. From what he said, it just doesnt work period. Even if you got a euro spec disc.

Hey, I live down the street from Einseidlerhof.
Do you have any contact information for him? Or do you think you could send him mine? I think the unit would need a software update, similar to when you swap the US disc for the Canadian Disc.
The US software is 5 numbers followed by KA, the Canadian is 5 followed by a KC, a software update is done by the CD card.

What sucks is there is absolutely no support from Honda/Acura for the solution. I even tried to buy a whole new Navi Unit for the Legend and I was told that it was not availible. When I asked if a Legend owner had a faulty unit that need replacement, what would he do then? The service rep just looked at me blankly.

The disk out of the legend will probably work as it uses the 4.xx disks in america as the TL-S does.
