07 TL Hopefully have 4.x Nav Version; 04 - 06 Force Upgrade
More hope is that the 07 TLs will have the 4.x version of the Navi software like the Accord, TSX and RL.
My questions is, would it be possible to order the DVD for the 07 TL and load it in the 04 - 06 model TLs?
I can't think of any reason this should not work. The DVD reader in the trunk should be able to read the disk. It is a matter of getting to the Navi diag screen and loading the software from disk.

Why is a navi upgrade more hopeful now for the '07 TL? Have you heard some late breaking news about it?
If the '07 TL does get the next-gen navi, I don't think you will be able to load the disc into the '04-'06 TL without changing any hardware in the car. If you could, there would be no reason why you couldn't pop a disc from the TSX or Accord into your TL now and getting it to work.

There should be no reason why the current navi cpu couldn't use the new software of the 07, if it really has the upgraded features. Other then the fact the disc will be 200-300 + dollars. I personally would love to have the instant MPG like my wifes MDX. But over all the radio function running through the navi screen is nicer then the MDX seperate radio.

Have Honda ever provided an upgrade with enchanced functionality for any navi? I haven't heard of it. I am sure that even if our hardware is capable of working with the new soft, they will intentionally lock it down. There is a possibility, that new navi computer will be compatible with the current one, and thus will be an expensive possibility for upgrade.

Not completely true. For the instant MPG to work, the program has to have the gear ratio to calculate correctly. Both of those cars are alittle different in the gearing compared to the TL. People have gotton it to work of the BIN files that are currently on the disc, but there have been mixed problems.

I suppose without realizing it, I had some of the "newer" navi stuff in my '04 Accord. Such as the MPG on the navi screen; have to admit it was nicer than what I have in the TL, but I was willing to give up a few minor things in order to have the TL instead of the Accord.
Oh well - as long as the TL navi gets me to where I have to go when I need it to - I'm not worrying about it.

You have to replace the DVD Unit
Searching through the TSX forum, I discovered threads from 04 - 05 TSX owners with the 3.x Navi version wanting to use the new 06 TSX 4.x Navi version DVD disc.
In order to make it work, you have to replace the Navi Unit. For the TL, the price is around $2,300 and that is without the DVD disk!

4.x DVD Unit Costs More
Checking the price of the RL and TSX 2006 4.x Navi Unit is around $3,500. So I guess if I wanted to upgrade to the version 4.x Navi DVD disk should it come with the 07 TL, I will have to spend around $3,500 for the Navi Unit + $200 for DVD disk = $3,700

I would not expect ANY software upgrades of the 04-06 navi, other than new road data on the next upgrade disc. Once they've sold you a car, what motivation would Acura have to offer you a better (upgraded) navi later on? That would make no business sense. I'm sure they don't think they are going to motivate a 04-06 owner to buy a whole new car just for a navi upgrade. But a new buyer that is considering a slightly used TL or brand new 07 TL might just be swayed to go with the 07 if the navi is better. The bottom line is that car companies make improvements when they update model lines. I've never heard of any other kind of factory upgrade unless something is broken. Nothing is broken with the current navi. It works great.

I agree with Redman. Perhaps someone will figure out a way to flash any new navigation software into older TLs, but it seems almost an impossibility for Acura to create an upgrade path for 04-06 TL owners. The navigation in our cars works just fine; why invest money in an upgrade path to address something that is not broken?

I agree. I am not willing to spend $3,700 to get the 4th generation Navi in the 04 - 06 TL.
I was sharing my research of the cost due to the replacement the 04 - 06 TL DVD Unit reader in the truck in order to read the "white" disc which is the 4th generation Navi.
Another interesting item I found while I was researching this is that it appears that Navteq is not providing the same map updates for the 3rd gen "orange" vs. 4th gen "white" disks.

From what I've heard, the differences between the 3rd and 4th gen navis are not that significant anyway. So I'm not sure why everyone's getting so worked up about an upgrade. But check out the new Tomtom Go 910... now THERE'S a nice navi. I wish they'd integrate that into a production vehicle.
